04/7/2011 09:04 | Qinetiq jumps 7% on bid talk, while FTSE 100 climbs for sixth day running James Bond would shaken as well as stirred. Qinetiq - the former Ministry of Defence research arm said to be the inspiration for the spy's gadget master Q - was rumoured to be in the sights of the Americans. The company, which controversially floated in 2006, saw its shares jump nearly 7% as talk of a possible bid from the likes of Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman and Boeing swirled around the market. UK group BAE Systems was another name mentioned, with a possible price of 180p suggested, which would value the business at more than £800m. But many traders dismissed the idea as just another speculative Friday tale. They pointed out the UK government holds a so-called special share in Qinetiq, allowing it to block any unwanted takeover and prevent any move deemed to be against the national interest. In fact the MoD has the power to veto any foreign shareholding above 3%, and any shareholding above 10% which involves a possible conflict of interest. Even so Qinetiq closed 8.4p higher at 129.1p. 01/7/2011 09:27 | Something happening here - up 10% last couple of days .Can't find any news other than: QinetiQ North America is one of 33 companies to win a contract with the IRS to provide IT services. The terms of the contract state it has a 10-year period of performance and it will also render its services to other Treasury Department bureaus. "Being selected for this award among some of the industries largest and competitive firms is a true indication for our advanced technologies capabilities and the quality of service our government partners are confident we can provide," said Jill Thompson, executive vice president of QinetiQ NA. The companies will provide services concerning local microcomputer applications to large-scale integrated legacy systems and newly developed systems, as well as security services and program management. Hard to imagine that is worth extra millions of profit. And presumably not this- QinetiQ chief sees pay rise 50pc despite cutting 700 jobs | wad collector

31/5/2011 15:49 | Smallish (I assume) contract win announced after results on QQ website. | mw
31/5/2011 14:52 | The Nasa contract was a big contract - but a service one with low-margin. They said that the SWAT product has good potential and would help mitigate the tail-end of Q-NET - so it has better to be good if that's what brokersai is foolishly talking about. So let's see next week. | alphahunter
31/5/2011 12:05 | Coming next week with the USA big contract. | brokersai
31/5/2011 11:51 | Leo let slip that they'd lost a big contract in the states recently (came a close second). $1Bn dollar contracts are in general what they're aiming for, now they have sufficient critical mass. | mw
31/5/2011 10:44 | brokersai, Yeah, I spoke to a guy in the pub last week-end and let it be known to him that a big contract signing was coming this week. | alphahunter

27/5/2011 22:09 | Nellie, Thanks for the link. I personally wouldn't catch a bargain here: Leo Quinn[?] is doing a fantastic job, but the headwind - at least in the US - are getting stronger. Besides the lack of clarity from their two main clients makes budgetting very difficult and this is not the type of business were you can use temps. I would not be surprise if the 2012-13 numbers were cut down. Just an opinion. | alphahunter
27/5/2011 13:30 | Tipped in press today as a buy | nellie1973
26/5/2011 11:03 | More of the same: cautious tone given the stronger headwind now blowing in the US, Q-NET sales to fall-off this year but new products (SWAT, etc,...) to mitigate, further savings/more leakers can me made/plugged beyond the £50m already achieved and need to change further the company's boffin culture (no disrespect here) into a sales driven one. | alphahunter
26/5/2011 08:33 | Finals look above expectations , pretax £114M well above the Investec guess. -- Group revenues up 5% and underlying operating profit* up 21%, Perhaps the worst is behind QQ now.Interesting about the Qnet. | wad collector
