Andy re stamp duty the IFS I think gave a damning verdict, all the savings will go directly go to the seller not the buyer and only 15000 buys will be a direct result. a very poor use of the money and purely political tinkering. I think what it will do is provide a level of confidence until the spring, so the Purp bounce feels like a relief rally to me.

Ofcourse there is also the Help to Buy farce in the background, the govt is taking a 40% stake in every new H2B house in London, a stake which is only a second charge and unlikely to be recovered if people have to sell ie become forced sellers. As you say, why have they got so hugely involved in property?

Is this the start of a 280 - 400 trading range until the spring?

Rog,

If I close, I'll wait for the next (perceived) top and reopen again.

I think the valuation here is ludicrous, and the housing market is reversing, so I will back that judgement.

Market cap over £1 billion again now!

Woodford has just added, so you may have a point!

And I was thinking he bought to support the price, but maybe you're right?

I think it's clear by now from recent performance that Neil Woodford doesn't have any great investing skill outside of running a large cap income fund and recently he's made major strategic errors in this area filling his income fund with loss-making start ups and unquoted companies that don't pay dividends.

He also seems happy to support the price of falling holdings by buying more. This may have a short term impact on supply and demand but as Allied Minds shows in the long term it's the company performance & valuation that matters and he just ends up delivering larger losses for his investors by incremental purchases.

So given his current poor investing performance in this area & the redemptions he's facing I think his buying more is not necessarily a long term positive for the company.
