Terminated i do hope for your sake you don't invest in PFG, vanquis is one of the countries biggest sub prime credit card issuers. They also offer longer term loans. They also own Moneybarn who finance cars over 5 years. You really don't know what you're talking about do you?

sippguru, I wonder how significant these noises from the FCA will turn out to be. I believe that when an account is clearly bad or very doubtful, credit card companies stop charging interest anyway - what's the point of charging interest you know you're not going to get?

My understanding of all provident products is that they offer short term credit, at sky high interest rates, to people who struggle to get credit elsewhere, and vanquis is no ecception. Their entire product range is aimed at a different market segment to normal banks. These businesses tend to do better in recessions. They will take a hit like everywhere else during a down turn but their high interest rates offsett much of the risk. Charts show this.

Terminated, please could you explain what Vanquis, a part of PFG do? You know, the part of the business they're most reliant upon right now. Give me strength.

Sipguru: long term credit card debt is a different market to short term loans. During harder times, and especially when conventional banks tighten up on loans, these companies tens to do better.

The latest noise from the FCA on long term credit card debt should ring further alarm bells at PFG. Obviously some of the idiots on here don't actually do any research or understand the company at all, just buy on price, but for the sake of the actual investors it's probably worth understanding the impact of the proposed changes.

Even the most pessimistic of brokers RBC Capital pencils in substantial profits for 2017, 2018 & 2019. "RBC cut its forecasts for earnings per share for the current and next two financial years by 65%, 56% and 42% to 51.7p, 81.7p and 125.3p respectively."Do some basic research. This company will clearly make large profits this year and every year thereafter.

My main concern with going back in here is whether we are going to see a profit at all in 2017 and a dividend after the one falling due.

If it fails on both count then even at 750 it will not look cheap. It may see a price to book of times 2 (assuming a diminished balance sheet) , a negative p/e and a zero yield as worst case scenario. You can buy a conventional bank with single digit p/e and 100% assets cover, for example.

Any thoughts on whether the profit making divisions can still pull in a reasonable bottom line profit for 2017 for the Company as a whole?
