Proton Power Systems plc
("Proton" or the "Company")
Official start of hydrogen fuel cell stack robot made in Germany
Proton Power Systems plc (AIM: PPS), the designer, developer and producer of fuel cells and fuel cell electric hybrid systems with a zero-carbon footprint, is very pleased about the successful inauguration of its new fuel cell stack assembly plant. The manufacturing machine was delivered to its Munich-based subsidiary Proton Motor Fuel Cell GmbH in early summer 2019. With the only stack robot in Bavaria, Germany, Proton will be able to increase production capacity up to at least 5,000 stack units per annum. With further moderate investment, the robotic unit will be able to produce 30,000 stack units per annum. This milestone in the company`s more than 20-year-history is a response to the increasingly heavy demand from industry for hydrogen fuel cells, which is clearly reflected in Proton's current cooperation agreements and strategic partnerships.
In a formal ceremony, attended by journalists from TV, newspapers and special interest magazines, the Deputy Bavarian Prime Minister and Minister of State for Economic Affairs, Regional Development and Energy, Hubert Aiwanger, officially pressed the button to start the hydrogen fuel stack production facility and commented: "Hydrogen plays a key role as future technology in coping with the shift in energy and mobility. In order to offer fuel cells more competitively, we need mass production. Proton Motor shows that this is already possible."
This innovative stacking installation sets a significant signal for the company`s enhanced, forward-looking technology standard in terms of climate-neutral power drive and energy solutions for mobile and stationary sectors.
The manufacturing robot "made in Germany" was realised as part of the project "Fit-4-AMandA" (Fit for Automatic Manufacturing and Assembly) and financed by the European agency "FCH-JU" (Fuel Cells and Hydrogen Joint Undertaking). After the opening event international press coverage paid tribute to this new era of series production with headlines such as:
- "Proton Motor commissions fuel cell stack production facility in Germany"
