Further details on existing order for the rail segment
On 4 February 2020 Proton Motor Power Systems plc (AIM: PPS), the designer, developer and producer of fuel cells and fuel cell electric hybrid systems with a zero-carbon footprint, announced that it had received an order from a new customer in Europe for a Hydrogen Fuel Cell system to be integrated into a mobility related application. Delivery is scheduled for May 2021.
Proton Motor has now been given clearance to announce further details with regard to the order as follows:
The order consists of the world's first integration of a fuel cell into a rail milling machine as part of the flagship project "MG11 H2" of the Austrian corporation Linsinger Maschinenbau Gesellschaft m.b.H. ( www.linsinger.com ), the world market leader in rail milling machines. This project was recently officially presented at the Linsinger headquarters to the media and to representatives from business and local government.
Proton Motor will be delivering a 214 kW hydrogen fuel cell system specifically adapted to Linsinger's requirements. The high-performance milling machine MG11 has a purely electric drive, without any hydraulics. This means that Linsinger's future rail milling machines, which will replace those currently powered by diesel engines, will be providing a solution to the increasingly stringent regulations regarding pollution from exhausts and excessive noise levels. Especially in underground tunnels, the new machine has clear advantages over current diesel powered machines. Furthermore the health risk of the operating crew will also be minimised via the emission-free milling concept, which also eliminates dust pollution.
Dr. Nahab, CEO of Proton, commented: "Here we have a clear indication of hydrogen as an environmentally friendly energy source generating substantial added value in the rail segment - and not only in passenger transport. Rail maintenance benefits from Proton Motor's innovative zero-emission cleantech solutions."
