02/12/2004 18:00 | Nice call, KVU Good trading | energyi
02/12/2004 11:44 | Not sure about the SPX, with regards to shorts as much as I was yesterday, so I closed my futures shorts out this am for an average small loss of -1.25 points when the futures were hovering around 1189.75. I have puts on the QQQ's so i am happy holding those and having sold my calls on the SPX yesterday, it felt like the risk for my position was too great to be as short as I was. Later: Looking at the QQQ and the NAS together, with the sell-off last night it seems as if the drop at the close last night might have been a test by the bigger players to see what kind of support there is. I would expect that to get tested at the open today and should it not break that conclusively then this market is headed higher and I will be dumping my QQQ puts for a small loss. | kvu
01/12/2004 22:39 | cheers we have this week sold our 60th overseas property | glennborthwick
01/12/2004 22:23 | glenn: hopefully next year I shall have the time to do something similar, and will get in touch then through your website. | bbbb
01/12/2004 22:16 | dollar still tanking glenn: you've visited and inspected I take it? indeed how long have the developer & mangmt rental co's been going? developer 20 years, maangement co 10 years its not offplan but up and running any bothersome tie-ins? not really 69 dollars condo fee for outside maintenace which suits me as i dont need a gardeneer just a few units could justify more involvement, with the travel expense. aiming to get three or four over next three years it should be possible, with yields of that order and a diversity factor to cover probs and voids, to structure a global portfolio where travel would be taken care of, and lifestyle assured. currently have 2 in france, one near st ttropez one in Nantes, and probably getting another in italy (abruzzo) and this one in the states - aim for 10 in a decade then retire on the income | glennborthwick
01/12/2004 22:11 | nasdaq gave up quite a lot at the end of the session on the futures on semi high volume so it will be interesting to see how the day opens tomorrow. Maybe a gap down with a fill back up later in the day. Lets see..... | kvu
01/12/2004 20:46 | More QQQXO at 1.25 ... | stoic warrior
01/12/2004 19:59 | Dumping the last of my SPX calls at 1190.50....volume looks poor for an after lunch rally so even if this isn't the beginning of some large correction, we should look to get some sort of small one. Lets see.... | kvu
01/12/2004 18:58 | glenn: you've visited and inspected I take it? how long have the developer & mangmt rental co's been going? any bothersome tie-ins? just a few units could justify more involvement, with the travel expense. it should be possible, with yields of that order and a diversity factor to cover probs and voids, to structure a global portfolio where travel would be taken care of, and lifestyle assured. | bbbb
01/12/2004 18:03 | stoic www.thewoodlands.net master planned community - bit artificial but great for letting and cant ignore the weak dollar anymore. 70% no questions asked mortgages and 10% rental management company all I need now is the dollar to go down to 2 to the pound, Im hedging half at 1.91 and it will be 10% cheaper than when I started looking 2 months ago when it was cheap anyway www.har.com if you want to search properties | glennborthwick
01/12/2004 17:48 | SW Glad to hear you are buying in the money options this time and those with higher OI. Getting the low of the day isn't my play, but being on the right side of the market is. Be well. KVU | kvu
01/12/2004 17:47 | Glenn - depending on neighbourhood, excellent price for a Houston condo with 12% p.a. ... I once lived in good ole Texas, I'm almost embarassed to say ... PS. Oh yes. Watch that cable short closely ... it's powering ahead regardless of every tech indicator and pundits proverb. | stoic warrior
01/12/2004 17:41 | buying a US buy2let property in houston, 3 year old condo, 55000 pounds - 12 percent yield just doing a bit of hedging every now and again | glennborthwick
01/12/2004 17:35 | Well, hello, glenn ... didn't know you frequented this neck of the woods :) kvu - just like last time, I'm with you on the QQQ's ... Dec 41's this time but @1.35 (leave it to you to get the low of the day!) as well as Jan 40's (QQQMN) @1.10 ... | stoic warrior
01/12/2004 17:28 | I agree with mad mac in someway....short the dollar is a mistake unless you got pound savings that you are converting to dollars for longer term moves etc. I wouldn't short the dollar myself, but I did buy some dollars today at around 1.9259 TP The $42 QQQ puts have nearly 100% intrinsic value at the moment so that is a nice play for anyone looking to short the qqq's on limited risk with maximum gain. | kvu
01/12/2004 17:26 | glennborthwick - any particular reason? Looks like the only thing that will halt this dollar drop will be coordinated and sustained intervention by the European central banks, maybe with some help from the Japanese. | mad mac
01/12/2004 17:24 | yes tpaulbeaumont | kvu
01/12/2004 17:21 | just gone short on the dollar spot at 1.9300 gb | glennborthwick
01/12/2004 17:19 | wasnt it QQQ on AMEX and now QQQQ on nasdaq? | tpaulbeaumont
01/12/2004 16:36 | unloaded some dec calls for hefty profits from the beginning of the week and shorted some futs against the other calls. Will look to dump the other calls later or tomorrow depending on the market situation. Bought some more QQQXO puts at $1.30. Dumped some more DEC SPX calls when spx traded 1188.50 and shorted more spx futs. | kvu
01/12/2004 16:29 | Bought first batch of qqqxo puts. These are the $41 QQQ DEC Puts at $1.40. Looking to buy more later, but just put a feeler in for the moment. Also looking to short some spx futs against my dec spx calls. | kvu
01/12/2004 16:25 | oh dear, jumped the gun again. I'm short already (NAS100 at 1580) and hurting with today's rise. Hard to see an end to it with this sort of strength in the market. It seems that the fall in the dollar is positive for US stocks, something I never quite understood as overall they are net importers rather than exporters. Maybe it is some weird effect because most in the DJIA 30 are exporters and they lead the market. | mad mac
01/12/2004 16:01 | Looking to get short over the next few hours with puts etc. | kvu
01/12/2004 14:40 | Looks like the fourth wave traingle occured as planed and hopefully the wait for higher highs should prove fruitful this week. | kvu
30/11/2004 23:14 | For all trading the QQQ's, remember it is now the QQQQ on AMEX. It will be in effect from midnight tonight. | kvu |
