23/1/2020 18:49 | Lucky, I respectfully suggest you do a little more research - the technology works in theory and in reality and it has been independently verified by global leaders in the industry. Next, you will be telling us we have 12 years to save the planet! | elrico
23/1/2020 17:53 | deccer1. Theakston Old Peculier. Please note the spelling and the reason for it-an icon which has stood the test of time as you say from the late 1800’s. If PHE can achieve a similar pinnacle, last as long, and be anywhere near as beneficial to mankind I, for one, would be well pleased | desflurane
23/1/2020 17:25 | Deccer1, I've had a port stout that would challenge your pinnacle theory :) | cmackay
23/1/2020 16:56 | Another problem is the generally regarded pinnacle of human progress was the invention, or rather creation, of Theakston's Old Peculiar beer in the 1890's. Ever since then its all been down hill. That is another reason why this folly may eventually be doomed to failure. | deccer1
23/1/2020 15:53 | The technology that PHE are trying to perfect is very difficult and in my opinion, although the technology works in theory, at this present time it will never work commercially. To understand why this is we have to go back 4.54 billion years, when the Earth was formed. The Earth at that time was a mass of various gases and no oxygen. Over billions of years the gases, cooled, concentrated and compounded to make solid matter. Billions of years later some oxygen become present and some 384 million years ago, somewhere just outside of where New York is today, the first tree grew and the first forest was created. Subsequently the forests grew and eventually totally covered the Earth. The trees themselves created an atmosphere which greatly improved the oxygen levels, so that the Earth was able to support life as we know it today. I mention this as it is important to understand the process of gasification. All materials including waste materials derive from natural raw materials that we find on Earth. There are no other raw materials other that what we find on Earth. The technology that PHE is trying to perfect has one key process, that being the process of gasification. If PHE cannot perfect that part of the technology they are promoting, they have nothing. To gasify any material, that material has to be subjected to a very high temperature without oxygen in order for that material to gasify. Therefore to put this process in perspective, one has to go back 4.54 billion years ago when the Earth was gas before the gas became solid matter, and reverse the process and convert the solids we have today back into gas. The reverse process can be done very quickly, we do not have to wait 4.54 billion years, reversal can happen in seconds. Provided this process is carried out without oxygen any material can be gasified. If oxygen is included in the process the material will burn and omit toxic fumes. Now to gasify, you have to make a machine that will gasify the material that needs to be gasified. However to do this we have no choice but to use materials that we have available that have been created from the raw materials available on Earth. In effect, the gasification machine to gasify the waste materials we wish to gasify will be made from the same raw materials we find on Earth which were 4.54 billion years ago, gas. Therefore the problem is that although through different processes we can create materials to build the gasification machine to destroy the waste we need to gasify, in the process, the materials used to build the machine, albeit at a slower rate will gasify themselves. A further problem is that the waste that needs to be gasified because it was produced in an oxygenated environment small amounts of oxygen are within the waste being gasified, which complicate the process. The aim of PHE and all the other entities that are trying to perfect this process, is to create a material which will take longer to gasify than the material being gasified. I am of course referring to what I call the reactor core, that being the part of the process where gasification happens. There are other problems connected with this part of the process, but the main problem to solve is the material that is used to try and solve this problem. If a material can be created to build the reactor core which will last, say, one month longer than the material being gasified, and the cost of that material makes the operation viable, then you will have a commercially viable process. The problem is that we do not have such a material available yet, because we only have what we have, that the Earth has given us which are the basis of all currently known raw materials. Therefore PHE are doomed with the technology they are trying to perfect, as an answer is not there. You cannot defy physics, we only have what we have, and gasification is part of what we have. We cannot improve something we don’t have. | luckey jim
