I added again at 774p today. Not without risk but this is why I have been hoarding cash. I also bought Randgold at 4470p.

The top line growth is the best in the field harvesting up 30% and revenues up 40% It just can't be ignored for its size. This ain't no nothing like the other Rusky gold miner. The known unknown is has the fund rotation out of gold & miners over yet?

Although it is a risk ahead of results on Monday, I bought my first gold shares today with purchases of Polymetal and Randgold. I actually moved the market with the purchase at 833p, which is something I have never done before with a FTSE 100 company and unlikely to do so again! The 4.1% yield, rising to 4.8% in 2014 and the modest valuation is what excites me, although the uncertainties of political risk, the oil price and the value of the Rouble could all scupper my plans. They should remain profitable as long as the price of gold stays above $1200, which seems very likely to me with central banks desperately trying to devalue their own currencies with rampant money printing. Oh well, right or wrong, I was hoarding cash for a day like today and have made my first move into gold shares.

Seeing the price action of gold today (down $17), is this (up 1% 875p) totally desensitised from any influence from the sector?
- Considering it has similar valuation (EV $6.6bn) as Randgold (EV$7.4bn)
- Reserves about the same 15mn oz vs 16mn
- the highest production of 1mn oz
- Similar debt level as Petropavlosk of $1bn albeit the interest cost is 2.8%

Results around the corner...

Could Pay Special Dividend

PROSPECT OF INVESTOR REWARDS LIFTS POLYMETAL

The gold miner could pay a special dividend to investors, analysts said.

Investors are looking ahead to hefty cash returns as the prospect of special dividends tantalised traders.

Gold miner Polymetal has been among the biggest risers on the FTSE 100 amid hopes the group will soon be in a position boost returns to shareholders.

Liberum Capital identified the group its "top pick" among the large cap gold producers and said it saw "scope for a 50pc increase in the payout ratio or special dividend by the year end". The broker, which described Polymetal as possessing "superior cashflow generation", started its coverage of the company with a "BUY" recommendation.

NOMURA UPGRADES POLYMETAL BY TWO NOTCHES TO 'BUY'

Shares of precious metals producer Polymetal International were given a lift on Monday morning by Nomura, which upgraded its rating on the stock from 'reduce' to 'buy'.

The broker says that Polymetal, which listed in London in November 2011, has "slipped under the radar of institutions" during a period of negative sentiment towards precious metal miners, especially due to its complex operations and Russian exposure.

"This has left Polymetal an underperformer and its valuation is undemanding," Nomura said. The stock trades at 6.2 times 2013 earnings (consensus forecasts) compared with global large-cap peers which trade on a multiple of 11.7.

"Polymetal has embarked on a large expansion programme over the past five years. The company is now ready to reap the benefits of this expansion as peak capex spending passes," the broker said in a research report.

"We expect Polymetal to generate increasingly attractive free cash flow yields of upwards of 20%, and we expect that management, in tune with changing desires of investors, to return a substantial amount of this cash to shareholders."

Nomura says that now that Polymetal has passed the FTSE re-weighting, current levels provide a good entry point.

The target price for the shares has been cut from 1,400p to 1,340p to reflect a lower expected silver price. However the new target still suggests around 45% upside to the current share price.

By 09:38, shares were trading 1.37% higher at 926p.
