18/4/2024 20:20 | My two cents (with the caveat I have never owned an imac and don't know what I'm talking about: 1. The current system is OS14 Sonoma, which has been out nearly a year. It can be downloaded free. OS13 is vieux chapeau! 2. For a system backup and storage generally you might get something like this 3. I agree with Mikey and Barry that it would probably be best to get a new machine. They look rather spiffing! | grahamite2

18/4/2024 20:12 | The should never have got rid of Windows 7. It has been downhill since then. Sorry Dom, I can’t help either, I’ve never had a Mac. I will back up Mikeys view though. Buy and new one through a local IT support company and they will be able to mirror your existing one without the need for writing down usernames and passwords etc. it might cost you £50 more, but zero hassle involved. | barry evans

18/4/2024 19:41 | I would say if your PC (or Mac) is older than say 9/10 years old, get a new one. Time marches fast in the IT world. | michaelg1
18/4/2024 19:16 | What's the Cabal's view (those that know anything about computers) on upgrading to a new Operating System? I did it once with a previous Mac and it was a nightmare, so I have ignored all subsequent offers, although I do, of course, keep the current one up to date with patches. My pc was new in 2017 (so still 'new' in my mind!) and runs OS10. The current OS is 13. I've now run up against a problem where certain sites (HL!) just blank me on some pages and when I asked why was told 'we no longer support your Operating System', so blackmail really. I've looked at various feedback sites and Youtube which vary from 'easy' to 'don't do it'. All of them recommend I back up my computer before I do it (if only I knew how). What's the view? Do I soldier on with diminishing access, risk the upgrade or buy a new pc?! | jeffian

18/4/2024 17:43 | Peter Murrell, former SNP chief executive and husband of ex-first minister Nicola Sturgeon, is understood to have been re-arrested in connection with Police Scotland’s investigation into the party’s finances. In a statement this afternoon, Police Scotland said: "A 59-year-old man has today, Thursday, 18 April, 2024, been re-arrested in connection with the ongoing investigation into the funding and finances of the Scottish National Party”. "The matter remains active for the purposes of the Contempt of Court Act 1981 and the public are therefore advised to exercise caution if discussing it on social media. For this reason, Police Scotland has turned off the comments function on this post. | grahamite2
18/4/2024 14:14 | By now, the KMS Engineering shop in Stonehaven is generating significant revenues which would have added to the profit levels, given away for a song, or stolen from shareholders perhaps ? My understanding that this business is valued at over £20 Mio, it was taken at face value of £2 Mio. That is worth almost 10p per share to POS holders, the question remains - Why was this done ? What did they know | chutes01

18/4/2024 11:47 | 8232 Forecast was for it to gradually cloud over and rain late afternoon in that (my'ish) area, if it doesn't I'm snookered, lawn treatment applied and if we don't get promised rain; it's apparently dry for while and me having to get the hosepipe out. | fireplace22 |
