F##k this. Time to switch the monitor off as we cruise into the inevitable 40s, then 30s.

Looks like we're going to shed a few pence today to correlate with Oz. Meanwhile, it's going to be a dark old summer for PLAA with no news for a while. Wish there was more liquidity so I could be done with these till the tide turns but I'm always fearful of missing out on a potential bid

Miserable quarterly. Much of it wasn't PLAA's fault, but there's no optimism or energy in it. Meanwhile, Kalplats drags on... I expect a return to the 40s during the summer slump. A real pity this one, but one day it'll come good.

They've already flagged up the quarterlies will likely be disappointing - due to lightning, potholes and miners slipping on bananas (made up that last one)

I wonder if this is the start of the sell in May scenario? I must admit, this is a hard old slog. If quarterlies show Smokey back on track and Kalplats even more robust, then we should head in the right direction, but then again the markets seem primed for an almighty correction.

Well don't think Malema is a short term threat, but he could be medium - long term threat to SA.

I think the Black elite with their cosy 20% BEE stock holdings are not going to allow the golden goose to have its neck wrung by populist rabble rousers such as Julius Malema.

Nationalisation of South Africa's mines? Not in my life time!

Chartsmart,

Don't forget Rooderand, it's looking good so far.

Stellex (Kalplats extension) has also attracted a quality partner
to take the project forward.

Also in the press article Lewins said they are on the look
out for aquistions.

Eskom power shortages in the current market will probably
cause PGM prices to spike up, but maybe ESkom have got
supply under control.

EXT has probably had it's best rise phase thats why Polo
appear to be selling their 9%, but over 3 or 4 years I
could see a 50% rise on current price.-

Red,

EXT have done very well and look good, hold them indirectly through POL. if there is a double dip I am ready for it this time round.

Kalplats is one of those that could be drilled for an eternity and I'm in no doubt will prove to be a huge reserve.

Panton may still have its day and could look increasingly important.

SH will prove a good money spinner when its running smoothly. With its own generators, wonder what affect Eskom power shortages will have should they occur again as SA mining gets back up to speed.

As you say at least in the present market it should be fairly easy raising funds for kalplats so there are a lot of positives here, maybe news will start flowing again soon?

Chartsmart,

Agree last year has been an opportunity.
Maybe a one off in our lifetimes assuming no double dip although that is
by no means certain.

Not all the delays are probably due to financial crisis,
but not being able to raise finance causes delays.

Invested some funds in Extract Resources on ASX, it has
ramped up drilling to 17 rigs as it has been able to raise
funds in 1 for 35 rights. Thus we are having reasonably
regular drilling results and a new resource release in 3rd Qtr.

Well PLAA was looking a bit low in funds in the depths of the FC,
now we've had two cash raisings in difficult times and Smokey Hills
is becoming cash generatives. Things are looking a lot better.

We've got the cash to carry our projects forward although a
Kalplats mine will obviously require finance raising.

Kalplats hasn't given quite the resource upgrades that we may have
been expecting, but I'm hoping there is more to come from Kalpalts.

The last year has been a life changer for me but certainly not from PLA. Managed to pick up a fair few from 18-25 as I remember other posters doing at the time but when it comes to selling at highs my record is pretty bad.

Red Ninja, the crash obviously caused delays but they were there before and would have been there anyway, I don't think there has ever been a rush to bring Kalplats forward. I've come to expect it with miners though, delays in mining rights, delays in equipment arriving, delays in ramp up, floods, pot holes, strikes, lightning etc, some you get lucky on others you don't but the PGMs are there and PLA does have a lot going for it with significant advantages over others if and when they get their act together.

We got the Kalplats PFS almost exactly 6months ago now.

Oct 8th 2009 - PFS
".....The Company has already commenced the Definitive Feasibility Study on the
Kalplats Project which will be based on the expanded resource including Serpens
North and Sirius."

Oct 13th 2009
Mira results

Oct 29th 2009 - BRR JL ASX small to mid caps conference HK
DFS to include Serpens North, Sirius and also Mira

Jan 2010 - Indaba presentation
Definitive Feasibility Study Due - Early 2010

so on the 30th June;) Serpens North, Sirius and Mira combined have less ounces than the other 4 individual deposits apart from Orion so will not have a great affect other than to bring the head grade up a little.

Well we never get perfect foresight or hindsight.

Sold some at 80 p on the big move up and some at 80p on the big move down,
bought back in the 20s and 30s.

Not perfect moves, but have left me in a good position with PLAA.

These days I try and trade more, I used to watch the share price go up and then down, still do, but I try and lock in gains more now...

Yep, that's true, but I seem to recall a financial crash accompanied with a share price crash in that time.

One might think that might have caused one or two problems for small company financing and thus cause the odd delay or two in developments.

So all in all I'm happy with whats been achieved in these turbulent times.

Also bear in mind we have been issuing more shares at lower prices, pre-crash we had a fund raising AU$2.74 (i recall) and the lowest cash raising was at AU$0.56 recovering from the crash.

What a great trading experienece we've had in PLAA share price, if you've only sold moderately high and bought back during the recovery you will have done well.

Agreed, chartsmart.

It's the shortage of drilled up ounces and meagre cash flow that need addressing here.

Lewins simply hasn't made the progress in both those areas that they were promising in 2007-8.

He has been talking about the potential of Kalplats to produce 300,000oz per annum for years now, but we seem to be making only very very slow progress towards that aspiration.

It's no wonder the market isn't prepared to re-rate PLAA yet.

Drewz I've been watching as PGMs have soared again thinking the same thing. Its not as if the outlook for PGMs is that bad either. The share price is disappointing looking back at the last few years and makes me think I probably should have traded them more instead of holding a long term core.

However I do believe that PGMS will continue to consolidate and that some of the smaller companies will regain a lot of lost share price this year which is why I have now gone long across the whole sector. The big producers that can throw out ounces while prices are high will do well but then they have also taken big losses to offset during the fall, have high costs and are more likely to see serious strikes imo.

Platinum Australia I feel has been disappointing on the time line especially Kalplats. With SH fully up together we would have been close to full production on an excellent basket price and the share price would probably be far ahead of where it is now. I'm sure Soros didnt foresee the lightning strike, pot hole and strike all coming hot on the heels of each other, c'est la vie. While another acquisition or talk of Panton rising from the ashes would be great it appears like the market wants to see cash coming in before we get rerated.

PLA, JLP, PPN, SLV which one will be first back to 100p? chart prices for comparison not accurate SP

PLAA press story

Lewins says :-

"We believe that the skills and experience of our personnel, combined with the quality of our development assets, make us uniquely placed to successfully grow into a significant mid tier platinum producer."

Weird 5 year chart - difficult to understand why the recovery in share price has not been more robust when the PGM basket price has recovered strongly.

Surely the prospects for PTR as the world economy gathers steam are better than this chart suggests.

At this rate we will take another 4 years to get back only to where we were in 2008!

Having said that, I notice AQP is on a similarly subdued trajectory.
