1/. trust and confidence comes from independent respected bodies. Farmers are wise old owls and v cynical of company proclaimed promises.

Trust is gained from user experiences which PIM has been gaining for many years now, not self-awarded marketing kite marks.

I think this process is v useful internally for PIM as it sets company standards to be an essential part of the corporate structure. I also think it is useful in its relationships with the major agro/chems…230;..

It may well be part of a medium term process to make them accountable /measurable and more attractive to a prospective buyer…..

H&T...In my view, the new quality standard address two important objectives and address one important issue.

The two important objectives are; 1. to convey a high level of trust and confidence to the end user, and 2. given that PI's strategy is to market its products via strategic partnerships, the second objective is to align with the standards of the major agrochemical suppliers, which is indeed a high hurdle!
If you watch the CEO's youTube presentation, he clearly states that PI now operates to the same exacting standards as the major agrochemical suppliers (who they have deep knowledge of). So, the new standards aligns them very well with their ultimate target.

The important issue the standards address is one of a lot of noise with little substance i.e. many products promise much, but don't deliver anything like what is claimed.

Indeed it is a self-imposed set of standards, a fact PI have not tried to hide! However, it is still a high bar to stand by, but it will set them apart because it is a standard that is likely to be unattainable by much of the noise!

Here and there, I see both sides to this news. But if independently accepted then another barrier to entry. I get their philosophy but will depend on independent verification to mean anything.

Sounds great but….

This is an award for PIM products from PIM……230;is this meaningless marketing tosh? Or am I missing something?

Agree. This will be very valuable PROVIDED the growers see independence and impartiality in the awards.

A response from our old friend David Marks may be interesting...

Timbo...The release does state the following "The standard will only be awarded to Plant Impact products that have completed comprehensive multi-year and multi-location trial programmes providing independently proven, statistically significant and transparent data on efficacy." So there obviously is an important independent aspect.

PI state that there will be a new website for the PI Quality Standard (which is apparently not ready yet) -

Today's news is very important in my view. High standards and robustly proven technology = unique and differentiated products.

With the US launch of Fortalis underway, it's worth considering that with the soybean-to-corn price ratio at its widest in nearly 20 years it favours the planting of soybeans, hence there are some predictions that the worlds largest soybean grower will see a significant increase in planted soybean acres this year.

2017 price forecasts for soybeans are bullish!

Recall the following from the FY Results -

Consistent with this programme and with our second strategic imperative, "globalise and scale", in February, we launched commercial operations in North America based from the Research Triangle Park area of North Carolina, the agricultural technology hub of that region. The Group has long-established distribution relationships in Mexico and Canada, and this new commercial operation is to introduce our products to the United States soybean market, which slightly exceeds Brazil as the largest in the world. We anticipate introducing our technologies into this market in the 2017 growing season, pending the outcome of a significant 2016 grower field trial programme on more than one hundred commercial farms across the United States. These trials are expected to confirm that the yield enhancements we have seen from our technology in Brazil are repeatable in the different growing conditions that exist for soybean growers in the United States.
(END)

Confirmed! New Fortalis USA -

Fortalis® + a foliar fungicide consistently increases soybean yield by:
4.8 bushels per acre (on average)
86% of test results show increased yield

The innovative, optimised formulation of Fortalis® has been trailed with 147 selected USA growers and research contractors to prove efficacy and establish optimum application guidance

New temporary Fortalis website, with "full Fortalis website coming soon" -

Thanks Cerrito. Not the whole of argentina is badly affected though and the damage is estimate at about 10% of the Argentine acreage, which is enough to affect prices, but it is not a wipe-out of the Argentine soybean crop.

One thing that I always found a little bit odd (if not concerning) was that I could never specifically find Veritas via Bayers Brazil product offerings. However, that has recently changed and there are also numerous referrals to the unique CaT technology, which suggests they have done their due diligence (the following is translated) -

We arrived to inaugurate a new era with Veritas, a product with systemic action, acting in the soybean and bean crops. Its unprecedented technology promotes the intracellular transport of calcium, ensuring a greater fixation of the flowers in the phase of flowering. That is, productivity beyond the desired maximum per hectare.

"Veritas is the only Biostimulant with technology (CaT) that potentiates the translocation of Calcium in the plant, a fundamental nutrient for strengthening the reproductive structure of the flowers, which results in more pods and grains."

FT run a story that suggests that we may not learn a good deal about Argentina this year. In the first 2 weeks of this year there has been heavy rains ruining fields that have just been seeded and further heavy rains have made it difficult for farmers to replant.
This is one reason why soybean prices are up 7% this year
That said Brazil and Paraguay are set for record soybean output.

TT...A re-read of the trading statement is a good starting point, with the main thrust being that a high percentage of expected annual sales has already been secured.

In my book, that equates to giving good exposure to the upside at relatively limited risk. Upside could therefore come from a good (or even better) entry into Argentina and indeed the important US market. A commercial return on TG-101 might also provide for greater upside...depending on the commercial terms, or indeed direct market entry!

There could alway be the announcement of a bayer type arrangement but the timing cannot be predicted. You've got to be in it to win it.

Hi All, happy New Year! I've had PIM on my watchlist for the last 12 months, but the share price is badly lagging expectations? Does anyone have an idea of near-term share price catalysts please?

latest from USDA and sounds positive
quote
Beginning in mid-December, locally heavy rain
provided timely moisture for germination of newlysown
summer grains, oilseeds, and cotton throughout
Argentina, though pockets of dryness persisted in
southern-most growing areas. Winter grain
harvesting was winding down, aided by dryness
earlier in December. In Brazil, frequent, generally
near-normal rainfall benefited corn and soybeans in
southern production areas. Drier conditions
developed farther north, aiding harvesting of earlyplanted
soybeans in Mato Grosso but limiting
moisture for soybeans and cotton farther east.
