Does look like that Value has had a fair run over the last 6 months but with strong earnings figures coming out from the big boys over the pond and the US stimulus pending ...

It depends (of course!) - the 2020 Annual Report has lots about sensitivities (eg p222), and of course inflation calculations ar connected with interest rate assumptions. You can download it here; https://www.thephoenixgroup.com/investor-relations.aspx

I wonder if people are starting to rotate out of stocks like Phoenix and into more risky or more economic exposed stocks?

Is higher inflation good or bad for Phoenix?

Alexander Borodin? Why would they name a finance company after a composer? Bit arbitrary

It helps if you want to google the Abrdn website - "Aberdeen" would give you lots of unwanted noise, like a town, or a cow. I think that's why car models have funny names - Evoque, Qashqai, etc.

The guy tasked with the rebranding seems to have an irrational, phobic aversion to the letter 'E'. Takes all sorts. I personally find them relatively inoffensive. Far better behaved, for example, than 'K' which never knows when to be silent. And I'd question the merits of a rebrand that no-one can even pronounce and therefore refer to in conversation.

A not terribly complimentary piece here, on the proposed rebranding of SLA to 'Abrdn' : hTTps://google.com/amp/s/www.thisismoney.co.uk/money/comment/article-9513813/amp/ALEX-BRUMMER-Betrayal-Standard-Life-Aberdeens-brand-heritage.html

A 6.7% rise over the past 2 weeks. Yielding 6.2% to new investors at yesterdays close but over 7% to longer term investors. 😊

Robsy2 :-) Not a bad choice Jonwig - one of mine during lockdown from morrisons 4 for £6, along with......

Robsy - shucks, as they say across the pond! But a pint of Timothy Taylor's Boltmaker Yorkshire Bitter, brewed just up the road, would suffice nicely!

Morning all Skinny- now i know why you do that! MRF- i’d also be happy to buy Jonwig a drink as well as a way of showing my appreciation for all the great posts over the years. Jw- what sort of drink would you like. Pina colada, pint of mild...?

Another way of thinking about it is that DCFs value a companies terminal period earnings into perpetuity Whereas very few companies actually exist into perpetuity So a "zombie" is actually a company that's priced correctly; in that it's not valued into perpetuity Buffet focused on picking those companies (Pepsi and the like) that would exist for a very long time; but it's easier to just buy those that aren't priced to last

I can see from several responses that I'm the only holder thats bothered, at least it's only me thats bothered enough to speak up, but if its not a zombie, then its not a zombie, so why let it go on being described as such? Its misleading, offputting and wrong - Stuff history. This is a good strong company run by competent people - so why say otherwise? Just a short sharp positive note in the header would make that plain. Im done moaning. seeya. Best of luck all. pete

It's always been priced as a zombie (and there's nothing wrong with that - all the PFI/infra funds are basically zombies too), so I've never been that bothered

Bought back in for the first time since 2017. PHNX never really was a zombie. Sure it had no active selling arm, just provided stewardship for life and pension portfolios. But it made money by driving down the administration costs, so not passive at all. Perhaps they can do a similar thing with Standard Life and create a new highly profitable branch to the business. Overall doubters have been around for as long as I can remember who keep predicting that the profits and hence dividends would dry up. So far it hasn't happened.

Quite pleasing to see much of the XD dividend amount regained back on the share price within just a couple of days.

Always my philosophy - the same with posting RNS links- which I do, that disappear from the header quite quickly - but remain as part of the thread chronology for any new viewers.

Agree with jonwig. Search ability over a long period trumps the thread name. And if potential investors were so easily put off by the thread title, I'd question whether they should be looking here at all.
