I've got NG and SSE in utilities Also NEE is the states (it's not chela now/potentially nose bleed expensive - but have held for a few years so won't sell) AQN (Canadian utility with renewable focus) Also OHRE - again not cheap but have held for 18 months so happily in the money NEE/OHRE give you next to no yield but so far have delivered on growth AQN still has a bit of yield and also growth prospects

PHP (not cheap now but have held for years) BBOX/EBOX GPOR - have been building up since March - hugely exposed to London offices but bomb proof balance sheet with best in class management MPW (US hospital reit) NSHW (Canadian hospital reit), ARE (US life sciences real estate) WPC (US net lease - which is long leases/sale and leasebacks) Americans do REITs better than we do so prefer to have a basis that side of pond but hard to ignore possible value over here now

pj - my view was that an annuity was the worst possible retirement vehicle But for all those reasons conversely buying an annuity provider was a great option Hold this with CSN, LGEN and the aviva prefs Insurance/life sciences/defensive real estate/infra/utilities to give a good reasonably defensive divi yield

pj, PHNX,Are one of the best.that is why I also originally purchased them, was No 1,but on the 25 Sep luckily purchased large holdings in LGEN at 180p,& SLA at 210p,because I thought they were at bargain prices, should have bought them in April, but missed the boat around 140p,and 170p bargain,s of the century prices. When I bought the yields on LGEN were 9.76%,and SLA were 10.28%.Also purchased for Income in retirement..

Ha, snap. Your comments got me curious, so I just checked my records - my first purchase of PHNX was 2014 as well. Have been building my holding ever since and it's now my largest non-fund holding, representing 8.32% of my stash. Core holding for me as there is a great long term view of the ability to pay dividends going forward and since I'm retired, with my 'pension' coming purely from dividends - that's really important for me.

Cheers,
PJ

Skinny, I have a Virtual P/F,and there it gives my SIV with the 2 RI,s and dividend income PHNX only own me 436.70p,on 5,600 shares. You can work out the profit from those figures.it,s a return of 69.5%.No way will I be ever entirely selling PHNX,great company, but I could top slice in future.

Strangely - I've contacted them this morning as I can't find the details of my original purchase - only corporate action - but I too have dividends going back to 2014.

Above time it was increased !

Nice to see more progress from PHNX in the bulk annuity space.

Phoenix completes a further £360 million bulk annuity deal with the Marks and Spencer Pension Scheme

Have also been adding to my holding with any extra cash as dividend much better than banks interest rates.

PHNX is one of those stocks where i always follow the lead of director purchases. I wonder if we have an acquisition on the near term horizon....prospect of negative and low interest rates for longer must be throwing up opportunities for PHNX.

It is interesting Helpful for PHNX and LG The point about Matching Premium is less the principle of it and more the thin capitalisation of some of the newer buy out firms
