05/4/2020 00:51 | On the dividend front it is good to see that it is still shown as due on 19th May here too: Still more than a month to go till then of course so the proof will be it arriving in accounts. At present only PHNX and AV. look to be my income companies this time round. All the others have either been postponed or cancelled. | lauders
04/4/2020 06:39 | I think the PRA's letter to insurers was directed mainly at non-life policyholders: Many insurers are facing a wave of claims from businesses who have missed out on profits due to closures and event cancellations. The spotlight is now likely to fall on other major insurers, including Aviva, RSA and Churchill-owner Direct Line, which has already suspended a £150m share buyback. [Telegraph] If PHNX had any doubts, I think it would have pulled the xd tag on Thursday morning. | jonwig
03/4/2020 21:57 | These days you just don't know what's going to happen next. No wonder they are all buying guns in the USA ! | my retirement fund
03/4/2020 19:12 | Think it will bounce Monday after the L&G announcement Re: Div Looking to add nearer the 5 level Losses over the pond tonight though | panshanger1
02/4/2020 08:05 | Well...ex a 23.4p dividend today, pay day 19/5. I expect it will be honoured but will be nice to see it arriving :-) | cwa1
01/4/2020 16:52 | schofip - I accept there's a lot of stuff out there, but it's easy to do google searches and pick proper medical/scientific sites rather than pop-ups. For example I did a search earlier for coronvirus man-made and this was near the top: The point is that this can be cross-checked elsewhere, but your email conspiracy was a mishmash of plausible coincidences. You do know that Salisbury is close to Porton Down? That was enough to get the trolls going! | jonwig
01/4/2020 16:43 | JonwigI don't disagree with you that is why I removed it, things like this are not my usual style. It was obviously written with the forthcoming election in mind however I thought it posed some very interesting questions regarding events in China. A film was made a few years ago and I have been told to watch it as apparently ends up with a scenario involving Coronavirus. Will report back if relevant. | schofip
01/4/2020 12:57 | schofip - you certainly don't go for round-robin emails! The FT, Economist and Times are reliable. BBC news as well. | jonwig
01/4/2020 12:50 | Mohamed el-Arian just been on cnbc and says the market is still on a downward trajectory and the full effects of Coronavirus are not priced in. He also said nobody can predict the bottom. His advice do you go to for to anyone thinking of putting money in the market should split it into 5 and invest a fifth each month.Regarding my thought provoking post yesterday, dismissed as totally fake and other expletives causing me to remove it who do you go to for accurate reliable information. The government, The media. , | schofip
01/4/2020 12:32 | In the case of a business that is completely unaffected, but the share price has still tanked, it would make sense to pull the dividend and use the cash for share buybacks or for a cut price takeover. | this_is_me
01/4/2020 12:31 | "I think once a div is XD it should be paid, s/hlders lose the div amount on XD." No they don't. | minerve 2
01/4/2020 10:28 | I know these are very difficult times, but it does set a very uneasy precedent. | skinny
01/4/2020 10:25 | Robsy - in theory, I suppose. But with GTLY which I mentioned, the share price had already fallen by nearly £1 so I doubt anybody would have noticed! | jonwig
01/4/2020 10:16 | I'll have a pound bet with you! | skinny
01/4/2020 10:07 | If the dividend is cancelled at the last minute does the share price then rise by the xd amount. | schofip
01/4/2020 09:57 | um where are these rock solid divis? anyone seen any around?? | robsy2
01/4/2020 09:52 | hmmh difficult. I am a holder but was thinking of adding to get my hands on some more rock solid divis. PHNX is going to suffer from the bond market fall out with widening credit spreads hitting its capital reserves . Also they have a lot of exposure to the UK property market so there will be impairment there as well. They may need to conserve capital and reduce/ skip a divi or two . I don't know but it is not unimaginable,so I think I'll stay as HOLD and not add. Thanks for the inputs. R | robsy2
01/4/2020 09:41 | It's a mess: GTLY went xd on 20 Feb, to pay yesterday. It was pulled on 24 March. I thought once declared a divi had to be paid. Seems not! | jonwig
01/4/2020 09:39 | Thought that with HSBC !! | panshanger1
01/4/2020 09:39 | Perhaps I should delete post 3856 then :-) | skinny
01/4/2020 09:38 | I guess if it goes xd it will be paid, since they know the score. | jonwig
01/4/2020 09:37 | It is XD tomorrow, but payment could still be deferred, or cancelled, up to the day of payment. Some other divs have already been cancelled even tho XD. I think once a div is XD it should be paid, s/hlders lose the div amount on XD. | eeza
01/4/2020 09:36 | I guess it depends if they 'pull' the dividend resolution from the AGM - which, I assume they would have to do today? | skinny
01/4/2020 09:34 | Hi Jonwig So,tomorrows divi will be paid then , too late to stop it now? | robsy2 |
