22/5/2018 17:01 | The results were no worse than predicted. This has took a battering today. Down 7% in the last hour or so. The only thing I suggest is that the price has been driven down so that the shorters can steadily buy back prior to dividend date. This will be back at 1.50 before long. The bad omen was the rise prior to results day. If a share rises prior,it will fall on the day, and vice versa. I have seen this so often that it can only be doctoring of the share price by insiders. | ianian4
22/5/2018 16:33 | I didn't think the results were that bad, a lot was already priced in. We are now trading at x9 PBT to MCAP. I am expecting a bounce in the coming weeks. | hatfullofsky

22/5/2018 15:05 | Wouldn't expect op costs to drop until they've got through the full process of sorting out the online channel. | yump
22/5/2018 13:30 | Pets at Home saw a decline in pre-tax profit of 16.6%, but their margin decline from three years ago is over 35%. Management plans to slow growth of stores are welcomed, but there isn’t any implement on improving internal operational costs. For more on Pets at Home analysis, | walbrock82
22/5/2018 11:28 | Yes - that's their competitive advantage and hopefully they'll use that to good effect. Every other retailer I can think of doesn't have anything to really pull people into stores, except using sales and discounts. Clothes retailers don't have a repeat supply of cuddly celebrities every week to go and see, but PETS has lots of cuddly pets. I know quite a few dog owners who shop at the same place, whether at PETS or not, for the same food repetitively, because that is the food they've decided is right, or their pet likes it best or whatever. If PETS can continue to stock relatively exclusive ranges that are liked, that's a lot more stable than just generally selling petfood. People do get set in their ways. If that weren't the case KFC wouldn't sell much. | yump
22/5/2018 10:26 | I think it’s niche is a national pet shop. The only one | john09
22/5/2018 09:19 | Needs to find it's niche. Does it want to be a Zooplus clone, selling loads of food online, for virtually no profit? Can it survive as a high street retailer in a difficult time for the sector? Does it want to be a veterinary business? Defending their business share by cutting margins and going multichannel, has damaged retail profit margins. I'd concentrate on the vet business, and use that to get customers in store. Hold prices high on branded food, and wean customers onto higher margin own brand product. Don't worry about losing business to online competitors. They'll soon have to put their prices up soon to justify their fancy valuations. Holding the dividend so as not to upset the market, won't hold the share price up. Investors want to know where tomorrows profits are coming from. Scaling back the veterinary surgery openings, and increasing loans to the surgeries rings alarm bells. I saw that as the future. | spotdog40
22/5/2018 08:52 | Well if buying for growth its a patient wait, but its a divi share imo, that's why I've got it. | yump

22/5/2018 07:07 | They look decent at first glance. Good revenue growth and all pointing in the right direction. Shame there are still so many shares out to borrow..maybe time for the shorters to close out | dplewis1
21/5/2018 18:00 | This is the highest close in a month (even though it’s low!) so let’s see what tomorrow brings | john09
21/5/2018 16:19 | I think this all depends on what general rating the market thinks is appropriate, for a business that should be fairly stable, produces a decent dividend, but isn't currently growing above 10%, if that. Stability used to keep Cadbury on a rich p/e ratio, but then chocolate sales actually pick up a bit in a downturn. The pet market is resilient overall, but PETS place in it has been changing. | yump
