Don't hold but would like to see this , if true, soar, shafting some of the bigger shorters-the kind of surprise they hate.

"if there's any substance behind the story"

LOL!! They name the names - Schlumberger, Halliburton and a middle Eastern company.

I sincerely hope they don't accept an offer at that level as it would still leave those who held before the big drop in the merde if they didn't top up when prices are low and then we would find that nothing came of that investigation and our company would have been sold for peanuts unnecessarily. The SFO should be obliged to prosecute and conduct a case within a reasonable time limit or shut up and go away. I must now go and calculate where 600p would leave me, having made a couple of small top ups at low prices.

Very nice - if there's any substance behind the story. See where it opens tomorrow to get a feel for how seriously to take it. Nervous night for the shorters perhaps.

As I suggested earlier, a 50% premium on the current price!! Look out for big action tomorrow!!

"The Daily Telegraph understands that no party is ready to pull the trigger imminently but City chatter has suggested a bid of around 600p per share is being considered by the interested bidders.

That would represent a hefty premium on its current 406.9p share price but a bargain compared to the 946p-per-share valuation it peaked at earlier this year before the SFO investigation."

bouleversee, just Filter the moaners - and never take the filter off. Simple.

You're right - patience is a virtue. The market is a roller-coaster and the skill is knowing how to ride it.

Anything could happen. We'll just have to wait and see. Meanwhile, my VCP shares were up another 8.5%+ at one point today (a bit less by the close), after announcing another takeover. Miracles do occasionally happen; whether they last remains to be seen. Won't be selling unless they come off AIM. The point of this tale is that if I had panicked and sold when they were down a lot a couple of years or so ago, I wouldn't now be sitting on a paper profit of over £60k. So can we all just relax, set limits as appropriate, and only post when there is some actual news to pass on so we don't waste time logging on just to hear someone's moans.

Another of my long term holdings, Fenner, has managed to recover losses by diversifying so as not to be dependent on volatile mining conditions. It took a while but it has paid off. There is no reason why PFC can't do the same but I doubt it will happen tomorrow. Patience is a virtue.

Alternatively, a bid could come at any time - particularly when the price is depressed. Like now.

Could be a big contract on the cards by next week ?
If so the share price could usually rise +35p in one day.

Auto buy @ 400p support, tucking away now, disappointing lack of major contract awards but, I guess that’s priced in 460 to 400p now next year I guess we find out from the pesky FSA lot what news they will bring.

I feel Oil prices need to remain lofted to maintain the 400/460p range, unless contract wins give a much need push north. GLA

Adding on any weakness, Gary.

If PFC are spending money to defend against hostile bids, as the Telegraph suggests, then I'd guess they're expecting hostile bids. Will shorts want to be caught short if a bid emerges?

All you moaners had an opportunity to sell and bank profits a week ago when this share hit 459p, you chose not to sell because you were greedy for more profits. Enjoy the ride while this share goes through its normal yo-yo pattern, this low might hit 200p or less...

If you are a medium or long-term holder, nothing to worry about here. Give this share a year or 2, there is a chance of at least a 50% upside from these levels. Enjoy the ride up and enjoy the ride down, an amazing share this is!

From today's MF piece on PFC:

"Based on the firm’s first-half trading, I estimate that a full-year payout of about 28p per share may be likely. That would give a yield of 6.9%."

It concludes: " The stock trades on a forecast P/E of only 5.5 for the current year. In my view, this caution may be overdone, especially given the recent increase in the price of oil. I believe Petrofac could deliver a substantial re-rating at some point. I view the shares as a contrarian buy."

Notimpressed- the dramatic fall in Wood Group shorts was because of the completion of the merger with Amec. I believe most of the short positions were paired against corresponding long positions in Amec. When the merger completed they received Wood Group shares for their Amec shares which cancelled out their Wood Group short positions. So if they were "gambling" it was just on the merger completing.

I know buying shares is a form of gambling but I honestly thought this was really cheap at 460p. I still think it is now and was then so I will hold even if it drops to 350p. As long as the final year divi remains intact I will rake a load of cash. I am just worried in case this does another CLLN.
