This year's tie up between gambling firms Paddy Power and Betfair into the aptly named Paddy Power Betfair (LSE: PPB) may just prove one of the wisest recent mergers. Combining Paddy Power's over-the-top, but effective, marketing campaigns with Betfair's veritable cash printing online betting exchanges has created an industry giant in a sea of consolidation.

Although Paddy Power Betfair is already in the FTSE 100, the company remains a growth stock in my eyes due to its overseas expansion potential, the fact that it's already a major player in Australia, and the potential for greater online betting. If the combined company can continue to grow revenue by double-digits, as its separate entities did last year, the future look bright for this gargantuan gambling firm.

Isle of Man-based casino software developer Red Tiger Gaming has launched its first game in partnership with Paddy Power.

Lucky Wizard is the first game to be launched with the operator, with a range of slots, table games, progressive jackpots also set to be released, including the supplier’s Smart Spins bonus engine application.

"This is truly an amazing launch from Red Tiger, we've never seen anything like it,” said Mike Phelan, head of Paddy Power games and Betfair arcade. “The sheer volume of play through the first game we put live has outstripped anything that we've ever done here at Paddy Power.

“Across the board, the KPIs have been phenomenal. We've seen stellar performance from Red Tiger on our Betfair brand and are very excited to see the impact that it is already having at Paddy Power.”

......In the UK, it has well over 2,000 high street betting shops, an asset that Rank could use to expand its land-based operations and credibly compete with Paddy Power Betfair and the soon-to-be merged Ladbrokes and Gala Coral.

Betting companies dropped into the red after it was announced a new 'place of consumption’ tax of 15pc would be launched in South Australia. Although it is a small state, where less than 7pc of the country reside, analysts in the City said there’s a real risk that other states may look to copy a place of consumption tax regime. In its wake, shares in Paddy Power Betfair lost 4.6pc to £87. Its peer William Hill rose 2.4pc to 300.2p.

Shares in betting giant Paddy Power Betfair edged up 0.9pc to £89.55 after almost 32pc of shareholders voted against directors’ pay packet at the group’s annual general meeting.
