Would be nice to see some steady trends developing in the figures. Up until now they have included surprises either up or down reminding us of the 'lumpy' days of Pace which being part of a larger and more diverse group I had hoped would have been mitigated.Things do seem to be steadying and from the transcript I got the feeling that we may be getting there. I'm not sure the Ruckus purchase is fully priced in and so when that confirms (assuming it does) I would hope we will see a bit of an uplift there.Nice to see international improving. Perhaps the Pace acquisition is beginning to feed through to the bottom line. Stuff to be quietly optimistic about I think.

Nice trend in actuals vs estimates according to the ir site:

1Q 6% beat (40c adj eps vs 38c mean estimate)
2Q 10% beat (63c vs 57c)
3Q 16% beat (80c vs 69c)

very tempting to extrapolate 4Q against the current 79c mean estimate, or the 74c-80c guidance.

Snippet - as limited by copyright :-

I'm very pleased to report that our business performed well in the third quarter, resulting in earnings well above the high end of our guidance. … had a great quarter from our Network & Cloud segment. ... improved overall gross margins for the business.
...
A few words on our set-top business. Clearly, our customers are competing in a changing competitive landscape with increasing fragmentation. And in Q3, the traditional pay-TV subscriber addition metrics in the U.S. were mostly negative. Of course, there are a variety of drivers behind this. Court (3:23) cutting or shaving is part of it as well as the storm-related disruptions.
...
... the increasing dependency on the broadband network plays to our strength and can improve profitability as we've seen this quarter. The shift of CapEx dollars from traditional pay-TV technologies to broadband increasing capacity, increasing speeds, driving fiber deeper and improving wireless coverage creates opportunities for us to grow profitably. These technology upgrade cycles are the key drivers behind our business. ... Memory cost continued to be a headwind and impacted profitability of the CPE segment.
...
We ended the third quarter with $1.413 billion of cash resources. … using a portion of this cash to fund the Ruckus acquisition.
...
In the third quarter, we repurchased 700,000 shares for about $20 million. … year-to-date, we have repurchased 5.7 million shares for $147 million.
...
... optimistic that our deal with Broadcom and Brocade to acquire the Ruckus Networks business will be approved. … This will be immediately accretive to our business, both top line and bottom line, and deliver on the multi-year growth plan … .
...
... not trying to provide guidance, per se. I think, we'll talk about that as we get into investor conference next year. ... .
...
In closing, we had a really good third quarter. I'm really pleased with the continued improvement in our profitability. We expect to continue that momentum here in the fourth quarter and are on track to achieve the full year targets that we set earlier this year.

Under promises and over deliver over the longer term is what builds shareholder value, the city is just after getting rich quick, that puts pressure on good companies to make poor decisions

"It's difficult to predict the 4th quarter..."! so my guess is they are playing down expectations for the 4th quarter.

Looks like a good beat on 3Q adjusted net income vs guidance and estimates. 4Q guidance looks slightly weak on adj net income vs estimates.
