02/5/2007 09:41 | I was hoping this would include ORCA middleware but the article in Lightreading refers to IBM using Kassena IPTV middleware. | colinhy
02/5/2007 09:21 | This is the last chance for the big time slice of the pie for ORCA, IMHO. I know having skoken to the company they are trying very hard to work closely with IBM and Cisco and this partnership will give ORCA the clout to pitch against anybody. Europe is leading the world on contracts for iptv and ORCA has been doing quite well, tier 2 and 3 companies is now their market. Come on Haggai! | ericthecat
28/4/2007 08:11 | Is there still a possible bid for Orca ? | hotfinance14
27/4/2007 14:42 | Yes prospects have turned around a bit. VDI also had good results. Also Evolutec (EVC) another cash play (in talkover talks with several parties). Share price 18p to buy, cash of 30p at end December. | hugepants
22/4/2007 21:24 | There is hope for ORCA yet ! The underachieving operators continue to be those, like AT&T and Deutsche Telecom, who rely on Microsoft's beleaguered middleware that has been "architecturally challenged" with its inability to scale. The report conjectures that further delays at AT&T will result in replacement of the MS middleware by mid-to-late 2007. | colinhy
20/4/2007 15:40 | no interest at all, maybe they do not trust blz after ada ect? | ericthecat
20/4/2007 14:28 | Year off to a good start/contract wins/still in bid talks/healthy net cash... So why is it so reluctant to go up???? | deep powder
18/4/2007 17:29 | Very big Sibirtelecom is the third largest of seven supra-regional traditional fixed-line telecom operators in Russia. Its area of operations covers about 29% of Russia's territory (4 944.3 thousand square kilometers) and 14% of its population (20 900.1 thousand person). The competitive advantages of the company are the extensive infrastructure of networks and the opportunity of rendering the complex services on all territory of operation. | colinhy

18/4/2007 12:20 | Do you think the block admission of shares has anything to do with the takeover? Get em in before the deal is passed? Can not be long now. | ericthecat
18/4/2007 08:58 | Another nice win, just building up the image for that take over bid? This is actually a very good win, this could be classed as a tier 1/2 win, it is a big company thoughout Russia;-) | ericthecat
18/4/2007 08:17 | RNS Number:0159V Orca Interactive Ltd 18 April 2007 18 April 2007 Orca Interactive Limited ('Orca' or 'the Company') Orca Selected by Sibir Telecom for Advanced Russian IPTV Service RA'anana, Israel, April 18, 2007 - Orca Interactive (LSE: ORCA), a global market leader in developing middleware and applications for IPTV, announces that its leading IPTV middleware solution, RiGHTvTM, has been deployed by Open Technologies, a leading Russian system integrator of complex information services, for Sibir Telecom, one of the largest telecommunication operators in Russia. The first phase of the deployment covers Novosibirsk, which is considered to be Russia's third largest city and it is planned to be expanded within the limits of this federal district during 2007. Utilizing Orca's RiGHTv middleware as part of the end-to-end solution provided by Open Technologies, Sibir Telecom's IPTV service includes high quality broadcast television, electronic programming guide, radio channels, video on demand, network PVR and time shifted TV. In the future, these services will also be expanded to include interactive games and information services that will be integrated into the service using Orca's Service Delivery Platform architecture. Haggai Barel, Orca CEO, commented, "Today's announcement is further evidence of the success we are seeing in our European operations. Our solution will not only allow Sibir Telecom to scale their solution as they grow, but it also provides them with a telco grade, customized solution from the first day. This will provide significant advantages over the traditional cable television competitors in Novosibirsk." | colinhy
12/4/2007 10:55 | This could be the year, talk up that price Haggai;-) STOCKHOLM (Thomson Financial) - LM Ericsson AB's chief executive Carl-Henric Svanberg said multimedia applications, especially IPTV networks and broadband access, are the main trends within the telecommunications industry, and that Ericsson is well positioned to tap their full potential. He made the statement at the company's AGM today. 'IPTV will drive traffic and generate more equipment needs as well as exciting opportunities in services and multimedia,' Svanberg said. He said that in this context, the recent acquisitions of Entrisphere and Redback Networks (nasdaq: RBAK - news - people ), that of Marconi last year and the bid for Tandberg Television, have special relevance as they round out the Ericsson (nasdaq: ERIC - news - people )'s product portfolio in the fields of IPTV, optical broadband access and IP routing. | ericthecat
12/4/2007 08:43 | With NAB coming up in America there could well be some more news, if there is it looks like ORCA are back in business, these contract wins could be forcing the bid to come earlier rather than later. It was quite a positive trading statement saying the year had started well, it looks like they are talking up the price to me??? With due diligence carried out it can not be long. | ericthecat
11/4/2007 11:12 | Nice recent contract win. There might be value in the business after all. Another one at a big discount to cash is Evolutec(EVC). Share price 18p. Cash of 30p. R&D expense largely stopped so cash burn low now. A few interesting early stage drug prospects thrown in. Looks like it will be snapped up - talks ongoing. I bought a few at midprice. | hugepants
11/4/2007 10:50 | Interesting, the latest report includes; Middleware vendors continue to take very different approaches to their roles in video networks. The Microsoft Corp. (Nasdaq: MSFT - message board) TV Edition middleware is designed to control an end-to-end all-Microsoft set of video processing components. Microsoft believes that, because IPTV is a young technology, operators want the tight integration and the single-vendor accountability that the end-to-end approach affords. (See IPTV: Microsoft's Window to Carriers.) Smaller middleware companies such as Orca Interactive Ltd. (London: ORCA - message board) and Myrio Corp. (a Siemens subsidiary) have introduced similar middleware that is designed to integrate with IPTV hardware and software made by other vendors. These vendors believe carriers don't want to be handcuffed to a single video software vendor, but rather want to choose the best technology available for each part of the distribution system. So vendors like Myrio and Orca claim to have built in "open APIs" to allow handshakes with other vendors' software with a minimum of integration work. Some analysts believe that, as IPTV software evolves and matures, this "best-of-breed" approach will become the norm. | ericthecat
10/4/2007 10:46 | yes another little contract but they all help, as I said before against the independent middleware providers ORCA or doing very well indeed, its just Microsoft and Siemens that are ahead, expect ericsson/kassenna to do well, but when Nortel Motorola or Commverse buy ORCA they will be a player aswell. I know commverse are favourites, but Motorola need something. | ericthecat
10/4/2007 07:10 | Nice to see some contracts rolling through, if prospective bidder has been given info to undertake diligence we should be hearing in next few weeks.. | deep powder
