Off topic ... but very important

I bet 99.9% of readers here have never heard of prion disease or know what a prion is.

Unless maybe you have read some of my posts in the last 12 months.

Remember the BSE and mad cow days of the late 80's early 90's ... that BSE was a form of TSE disease ... a prion disease

It caused CJD and vCJD , which is still around today .. I kid you not, also around 1 in 1,500 are CJD/vCJD carriers , plus different types of CJD are still being identified as DNA/genetic mutation measuring eqpt and testing methods have improved.

The latest developments are that in the USA , a new disease called CWD Chronic wasting disease is spreading through deer, elk and moose herds.
CWD is another TSE disease and is a form of prion disease.

By the way prion diseases are fatal ... and no cure exists.

The NHS found out that prion protein residue was being left on surgical instruments AFTER they had gone through NHS cleaning/washing/decontamination procedures around the time of the vCJD crisis.

Around 1994/5 the NHS decreed that henceforth there would be two distinct sets of surgical instruments for operations.

One for people born pre 1994 ... and another set for those born after 1994

2 sets .... still works that way today

Prion disease and prions can withstand 200 degrees for 2 hours and still live

They can dry out and stay in soil for over 30 years and still live.

Deer, Elk , Moose , and more recently Camels have now been tested with TSE type prion diseases.

The world is soon going to have a major meat issue ... along with a variety of ways of human transmission.

vCJD as I said can be transmitted via prion protein residue on surgical instruments or dental intruments

It can also be transmitted by eating contaminated BSE beef

And by blood transfusions or organ transplants

........ Update on Chronic Wasting Disease in Europe ..........
25 April 2018

Disease report

In March 2016, the cervid Transmissible Spongiform Encephalopathy (TSE), or Chronic
Wasting Disease (CWD) was reported in reindeer in Europe for the first time with a case in Norway. The source of infection and time and route of incursion is not known.

This is an update on the surveillance results in Norway and also includes an assessment of the first case of an atypical TSE/CWD case reported in Finland.

There have been no detections of CWD in Europe outside Norway and Finland to date and no cases of cervid TSEs in the UK.

This report is to inform readers of the ongoing likelihood of more CWD cases in
Europe and also the risks to the UK.

Attention is also drawn to a forthcoming paper documenting detection of prion disease in camels in Algeria.

This demonstrates the need for ongoing awareness of TSEs in other livestock species in different parts of the world.

buywell3 says
As I have said before .... the Whale in the room continues to pass through , unseen by 99% of all those in it

In the USA 25 states now report CWD in deer moose and elk ... it is spreading OUT of control

It also exists in South Korea

Even those in your ISA longshanks?

I respect your decision but after the recent Director token buys and the increase in holdings by Sneller and Oryx I am surprised by your timing as you have obviously taken quite a hit here with this investment.

I wouldn't say I am at all happy how things have played out here over the last 6+ years but I ain't selling as I am very hopeful that all the pain I like many others out there have endured will eventually be rewarded with a capital gain, not sure how or when but I am definitely staying the course!

Hi leedslad, barry, genie, Pinkfish,

I wish I did have more sense......Have watched this for years now but just can't bring myself to invest in the medical diagnostic sector again, OMH and then MDW have scarred me, although MDW did turn out alright due to buying at the extended trough. I have had forays into DEMG and others and they all seem to have delays, problems with cashflow and just tend to disappoint.

I think the main problem is those that are buying the products. If you make a good product show it to the customer and they like it, they buy it. In the Medical world you have to jump through hoops with trials, then they say they like it but need further proof, so you do some studies, etc and then at the end of it you have a registered device with independent studies backing it up and they say, really like it now, but budget constraints mean we aren't in the market anymore....

I will keep a runt of shares for general interest.

When you feel deceived by management it doesn't matter what subsequently happens to the share price. Trust is gone. For how long have we been led to believe ODX management was competent? Even down to selling German property to lease back to fund "growth".

I thought they were being careful with news to cool down any speculation. Fact is they didn't have much to shout about and were keeping stum so suckers like me couldn't work out they were winging it.

Sneller is trapped, where is he going to off-load his stock except in a wind down?
He made mistakes on PIM, hope it doesn't repeat here.
Mills is an excellent value man and speculator.
I doubt this is a conviction buy for him else he would be closer to 20% imho.

Management will be instructed what to do and hopefully will execute accordingly and not acquire delusions of competence along the way. I hope you all make a packet from this.

Yes good luck in the future longshanks, regarding Edward Valente, a former Axis Shield man who has been with ODX since 2011:

I will definitely be staying the course here as I am extremely confident that ODX will be dismantled by the clueless board under the strict instructions of Sneller & Mills (S&M).

Messrs King, Harbinson & Co are well aware that their days are numbered here otherwise they would not have the guts to buy shares in the open market.

I think the closure of the Pune operation has to be the clearest signal to all and sundry that ODX will not be manufacturing VISITECT® CD4 anywhere in the future, and I would think that S&M will be actively engaging with potential suitors at the moment.

"The Board is committed to delivering value for its shareholders and will seek to do this in a manner consistent with realising the value of VISITECT® CD4"

I am thrilled that Oryx have upped their holding as the experience of Chris Mills in particular will be pivotal in ultimately getting the job done.

I respect your decision longshanks but I would hang on to a few if I were you as it looks as if there will be a fair bit of action in the coming months.

I wonder who else at ODX will crawl out of the woodwork and snap a few, like printing money when you have seen the script! 😛

I think you should keep up the disparaging remarks!

Good to see Directors getting their skin in the game: not heard of Edward Valente before (Group R&D Director).

It seems odd the way they are all buying at different times. It is almost like there is a cascaded message coming down from Sneller: buy stock or get fired...

I am not convinced overall by the recent statements though so, like p1nkfish, I have been reducing and will probably exit completely if this rise continues.

I feel the perfect scenario is shaping up nicely now with Sneller & Mills having accumulated 25.14% between them 🤓

Will be interesting to see what happens with the Food Intolerance business now given that the strategic review stated that they were 'exploring all avenues for realising value for our Food Intolerance business particularly in the USA.'
