Investors who want an antidote to expensive and volatile stock markets could try cheap shares in the investment company that backs listings publisher Time Out, hailed as one of the last “value plays” of its sector.

Oakley Capital Investments, a £335m venture capital company based in the tax haven of Bermuda but listed on the London Stock Exchange, owns nearly a quarter of Time Out through one of three funds run by its manager, Oakley Capital Private Equity.

It made a £59m profit when the publisher floated on the Aim junior market in 2016. In contrast with world stock markets, which are attempting to regain their all-time highs after a roller-coaster slump and rebound this week, shares in Oakley remain stubbornly undervalued.

Oakley has increased its net asset value (NAV) by 140.5pc in the past 10 years. That beats the 70.4pc from the FTSE All Share index, according to data provider Morningstar,...

Fairly insipid annual growth. Not likely to kick start the share price.

Founder of Daisy one of Oakley investments has started a sale process that is likely to value the business at £1 billion+ according to an article in yesterday’s Sunday Times Business section.

G'day Skyship, I was also an investor along with you, but sold at the high. My critism of you is simply, current ramps.

Have you had meetings with the Co. in Bermuda? I have, hence out.

I believe we have been involved in a couple of others, agree, need to feel positive, but ramping not my style.

0410 in Bear (France), no need for medical help (69)!

cheers

??? - apologies to others for the above. Not sure what he is on about - perhaps just drunk; though that really doesn't excuse such idiocy!

A flurry of interest today - thought it might have been ST revisiting in IC Online - but not so it would seem...

Hopefully presaging another upward run.

TMO announced launching a time out market in a Boston. It is an investment we don't hear much about but looks very good to me.

Morning All

For the very little that it is worth I topped up here this morning as well. Those recent purchases allied to the upbeat recent interims gave me the confidence/stupidity! to decide to have a few more. Not a "bet the farm" type job by any stretch but now got a reasonable amount of skin in the game.

Good fortune here to all.

Was tempted but RSP 160 sell/164 buy, on a 164/164.5 quote, so must be a seller around. Hopefully they'll be done soon.

I can only emphasise that it is quite unusual for true non-execs to buy in this sort of quantity. It is one thing for Dubbens to buy, as he is the investment manager and earns millions. But these directors are investing more than they get paid for their role here. They must be confident that some of the assets in the fund are mispriced.

Yes, seems like a decent level of commitment bought on the open market(as opposed to the freebies they usually get).
