The global number of new coronavirus cases rose for the first time in nearly two months, the World Health Organization said Monday, blaming the surge in infections on circulating variants and premature efforts to lift public health restrictions.

Cases over the past week jumped in every region except for Africa and the Western Pacific, the U.N. agency said, after declining for six weeks straight. In the United States, a steady drop in new cases last month also appeared to be leveling off and there are fears it could reverse course amid yet another wave of infections.
Here are some significant developments:

President Biden is set to announce Tuesday that pharmaceutical giant Merck & Co. will help make Johnson & Johnson’s coronavirus vaccine in an an unusual pact between competitors that could boost the supply of the newly authorized vaccine. The administration brokered the arrangement.
The government’s top infectious-disease expert, Anthony S. Fauci, on Monday reiterated that the United States will stick to a plan to inoculate tens of millions of Americans with two doses of Pfizer-BioNTech̵7;s and Moderna’s coronavirus vaccines.
After a study from England showing that the first dose of the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine sharply reduced the risk of serious illness and death among the elderly, France has reversed its position and authorized the vaccine for the aged.
While much of the world is using restrictions and vaccines to try to tame the coronavirus, Brazil’s outbreak is worse than it has ever been.
A new study reports there have been hundreds of covid-linked attacks against health-care workers globally over the past year.
More than 513,000 people have died of the coronavirus in the United States with the rolling weekly average of new cases and deaths both rising by 4 percent.

You get vaccinated for COVID once only (or once a year).

You might be tested for COVID dozens of times a year (vaccinated or not).

Back in here, it looks like the recent downtrend has been broken and this is probably the best Covid test company out there. Yet more tests will be needed globally for quite some time to come and the new developments re antibody and lamp tests are very interesting. They will no doubt be best in class as with the existing antigen testing. It's also interesting to note that GM is focused on building a sustainable diagnostics company for the long term and will be updating us on that before long.
