27/1/2023 17:11 | I was having a storming morning and then it all went volatile and mixed in the afternoon, taking a lot of the shine off a big lunchtime rise but still a substantial gain of +0.9%. It's been a bumper week, taking me up to +6.1%. That's brilliant considering it was shaved back slightly by paying my tax bill, and nearly matches my gain for the whole of last year. Odd thing is, I'm quite pessimistic. Most things went a bit volatile in the afternoon, especially in the last hour - forex, commodities, shares and bonds. It bodes ill, I think, as markets seem to argue with the Fed about the need for further rises ahead of next week's meeting. A few pundits have been writing about it. A very grey day again but it did not feel cold generally, with a minimal northerly that was easy to hide from. I manage another bike ride where the windchill was still there but lessened. I found plenty of people out on on cycle paths being frustratingly inconsiderate again. As a bonus, there's still seen no sign of sweeping up leaf mulch or broken twigs and we now have the first pot-holes appearing. Weather looks reasonably dry for the weekend as wind increases. Have a good one. | aleman
27/1/2023 17:06 | Portfolio +0.16% saved by WIX, UPGS and SBRY. Very poor week -0.88% making +3.01% YTD Plenty of sunshine but still feeling very cold 6C. Got the Peugeot back with a renewed MOT and newly made/fitted copper brake pipes. QPR at Hull tomorrow , we're out for a vietnamese lunch. Hike on sunday, hopefully a little warmer. Plenty of FA Cup football on TV. Good weekend everyone | philanderer
27/1/2023 16:55 | In spite of being down first thing ended up 0.5% Best risers UPGS,DOCS.SDI. Worst fallers HAT,RIO,RR.,WDS on the week +0.52% YTD +4.04 | malcolm caton
27/1/2023 16:45 | A decent day for me despite the large fall in SDRY - up 0.5% UPGS the outstanding value riser for me after a few weak days. My commercial property and small cap trusts have also improved over the last few weeks. A few decent dividends to add in as well takes my YTD to 6.6% Played tennis last night, we are making a late push for promotion but no thanks to me. I did manage a double bagel 6-0, 6-0 win but that was only because in the first match our opponent sustained a nasty eye injury when our player volleyed one into him. Hopefully no more than a black eye and a bit of bruising but you don't want to see other players injured like that. I'm not against aiming it into the body though. | dr biotech
27/1/2023 14:38 | My lot are still positive on the day but certainly by less than they were earlier! Lovely down the marina at lunchtime but a very bitter wind. | mrphil
27/1/2023 14:32 | US probably already in recession and still raising rates ....??? Paul Ashworth at Capital Economics says the drop in personal spending in the US suggests the recession could have already started. ... ...Real consumption declined by 0.2% m/m in November and then 0.3% m/m in December; both declines were worse than we were expecting. As a result, even if real consumption returns to growth over the first few months of this year, the disastrous end to the previous quarter means that first-quarter real consumption growth will be close to zero. Our forecast for first-quarter GDP growth is now -1.5% annualised. | aleman
27/1/2023 14:24 | US consensus aggregate earnings fall again, though a little slower. | aleman
27/1/2023 13:22 | I've had 14 holdings update the market over the last month or so. Most have been in line or above expectations - however 2 have warned, Reach and Superdry (down about 20% today, fortunately they wear only 0.6% of my total). Seems in my very small sample size that B2B has done better than B2C. | dr biotech
27/1/2023 13:00 | It looks like a decent week is coming to an abrupt end! | skinny
27/1/2023 11:12 | Morning everyone. Slighly warmer this morning. Portfolio continues to underperform . Every one of my companies reporting this week has sunk. Must be around -1% for the week. Pantomime last night was excellent. Ony in a pantomime can you get a middle aged man in a parrot outfit playing a trumpet solo :-) Quiz = 2/7 | philanderer
27/1/2023 10:01 | Sorry to hear that malcolm, hope it picks up. Nice little boost for SBRY this morning, possible future approach? | mrphil
27/1/2023 08:29 | Morning. 4/7 correct guesses for quiz. A red start for my lot. | malcolm caton
27/1/2023 08:16 | Morning All. 5/7 for me this week, some lucky guessing! I'm also hoping Friday doesn't take away earlier gains. | mrphil
27/1/2023 07:26 | Good morning. I had +1.1% yesterday with a lot of blues and. IGR and SOS still doing well. It's been a good week. I'll settle for just keeping most of the week's gain today as Friday profit-taking always temps a few people. | aleman
27/1/2023 07:12 | Good Morning. . 4/7. | skinny
26/1/2023 20:22 | ADVFN playing up at the moment it says my portfolio is worth nothing.fortunatly my brokers don't agree.! | malcolm caton
26/1/2023 20:08 | Looking to make a small monthly top-up to my BOOT holding tomorrow. Been a good week so far for my lot.. hope I don't jinx it for Friday. Still likely be bottom of the pack thanks to DLG exposure but still plenty of the year to go! | carpingtris
26/1/2023 19:46 | Up 0.9%. Updates from AGFX/CTO/KETL all well received. UPGS only significant faller. Will add in this months dividends tomorrow which should give a small boost to my figures this week. | dr biotech
26/1/2023 17:39 | +0.38% folio, [FTSE All-Share +0.27%] IGR another +5%, an ill timed purchase on the way down is now clear in profit I did help myself lower down though. VTU & LLOY, another one finally back in profit. SCLP, UPGS(div payment of 4.82p ps tomorrow fri) Max 7C, mainly dry. The red tops have a fixation about 'snow bombs' on the way but nothing like it showing on forecast. | blueliner
26/1/2023 17:36 | Another poor day for me -0.35% , the market didn't like the DGE results, falls also AZN, BATS, IMB, WIX and UPGS..... one main gainer BP. Cold damp day again with a couple of afternoon showers 6C. Early dinner tonight as we're out supporting the local amateur dramatic players with their pantomime 'Robinson Crusoe' in the village hall :-) | philanderer
26/1/2023 17:20 | I'm up +0.294% on the day today (FTSE100 +0.210%). Best rises: TATE +6.11%, LLOY +3.04% and KGF +2.85%. Worst falls: DGE -5.52%, AZN -1.54% and BATS -1.05%. Reaction to TATE and DGE staements completely opposite, but TATE did fall yesterday. DGE's fall looks overdone. AZN continues its downward progress, but LLOY definitely has the bit between its teeth. Pub lunch today, very nice, first since Christmas. Roof is proceeding apace. Wake tomorrow. DF | deanforester
26/1/2023 17:19 | Good day at +0.69% with LLOY, BP. & TATE taking top spots today. Had a long chat with a guy at HL regarding the Junior ISA's. Apparently it is part of the HMRC regulations that investment decisions have to be made by the parent or guardian but he has gone off to investigate whether my son can authorise me to take over. If not, I'll just have to stick to the share & fund accounts and keep an eye on any gains in future years. Why do they have to make this so hard?! | mrphil
26/1/2023 17:05 | UP 0.25% held back by large falls from DGE,FEVR,EQLS,UPGS, LLoyds my main holding went positive last week.I have a further small holding that cost 25p, | malcolm caton |
