Cold & misty here too. Left my mobile in the office last night so couldn't remotely set the climate control in my car. First world problems, I used MrsP's mobile to set the climate in her car and pinched that instead!

Cold and misty here too, only around 1°C and looking very miserable out there.

Just been watching a video on the FSFL website, quite impressed with them. They would have had a good week with all the sunshine we've been having, but they won't be generating much today!

We had our first applicant for interview yesterday (first one didn't bother turning up) and she seemed fine so I have "encouraged" our sales director to take her on so she starts in a couple of weeks. Her CV was far better than those still to come in so I saw no point in waiting and risking her finding another position elsewhere.

Regional Fed surveys continue to be consistent with slowdown or recession and at a level where we would more usually be seeing interest rate cuts.

Despite more mixed results this week, there seems to have been plenty of US redundancy announcements again - such as Capital One and 3M.

Skinny, I have always found Aldermore very easy to deal with. We have Business Savings with them and MrsP has a fixed rate savings account.

Can't comment on the recommedations but I am seeing the word disinflation cropping up more. Disinflation is falling prices, as opposed to deflation which is falling money supply - though they are closely related. (The UK is seeing M0/cash deflation but not as yet M3/broad money.)

I think 2023 is going to be very different from 2022.

Investment houses are getting behind on US earnings forecasts which I am watching closely. UK company reports generally seem to be surprising to the upside and actually looking very good. US reports continue to be weakish but probably not as bad as the first couple of weeks of the year where lots of financials issued bad news. WIll financial problems spread more widely? Capital One reported bad numbers yesterday but suggested write-offs and delinquencies were mostly just normalising.

Canadian National Railway suggested a wider slowdown

I've just tried to open a Yorkshire B/S cash ISA - the verification method is totally online via a camera driven app - maybe just me, but I can't get it to accept any documentation - driving license, passport..... oh well.

Good morning. Gas prices are hitting new lows. US price is back to that of nearly two years ago. So, have we been operating the wrong interest rate policy and what will it lead to?

Morning All.

22.5K posts for me since Jan 2004, most of them would have been on here where I see we have now hit 78.5K altogether!

Skinny, lovely mindfulness clip of the birds there, don't forget the Big Garden Birdwatch this weekend! Just ordered some more seed, fat & nyger seeds.

Bit of a slow start for my lot today but looking at my HL account it looks like the managed funds are starting to recover some lost ground.

Good Morning.

Just short of 39,000 posts in 23 years - although for probably 10 of those years, I posted mainly on MAM.

A new one on me :-

3656 posts in 15 years. That's a long time you've been posting Phil, I wonder if anyone on here can beat 22 years?

Thanks for the kind wishes gents, feel a bit better today than I did yesterday so looks like antibiotics working their magic. I've been laid up in bed for two days and lost 3 pounds, If any of you want to lose weight a UTI seems the way to go.

Portfolio -0.19% ... ABF fell after an update along with AZN, TSCO, SBRY and HILS.....best gainer by a mile PZC along with WTB and SMIN.

Sun shone for most of the day but it still felt cold 4C. Washed my wife's car and my hands were freezing. One load of washing, no chance of drying that.

Roasting chicken thighs and potatoes tonight along with some broad beans.

carpingtris, it's easy to get these aches and pains in this cold weather, hope the shoulder gets better soon.

16 degrees over by Aberdeen airport today.
Reached 13 degrees on the Moray Firth where I was. This time last week, we were snowed in.
I'm ready for Spring.

Portfolio still underperforming. Sounds like Aleman has shot past me in the league table!

Hope the warmer weather helps you with that, carpingtris. Don't go to Siberia. There has been a report of -73C there as the Arctic blast of Asia continues. (click on map to see different parts of globe)

Pleased with SNR update today and a few pounds from breakeven now thankfully.

BOOT update mixed but nothing untoward so may start adding a bit more there? Hoping for better times.

S32 went past 120% and my holding is essentially free as took at my original holding last year!

HFEL is close to breakeven on holding and am in profit on them if I count dividends received over the years.

Just need DLG to play ball!

Good week so far though.

Just had a look and I've done over 45k posts in about 20 years. (Anybody posted more?) I wonder how much of my life that took up. I hope most of them were informative, sensible questions or interesting chit chat. It's been fun at times and has turned out quite profitable.

I'm uo +0.060% on the day today (FTSE100 -0.351%).

Best rises: S32 +3.61%, TW. +2.07% and SMDS +1.85%.

Worst falls: AZN -2.97%, TSCO -2.36% and GSK -1.69%.

The pharmaceuticals had a poor day. S32 continues its rise after yesterday's report.

We had +3°C this morning after a cloudy night. It doesn't look as if it has got much higher during the day. We have been to Tonbridge for lunch with a friend, and her flat was as cold as charity.

Scaffolders arrive in the morning, then our roof replacement can proceed.
