Good morning. It's -10C in a few places in the Southeast. We're still getting condensation on windows. We don't normally get it so far into winter since the air is much drier before heating it up. I don't know if it's because we're drying more clothes without the tumble drier, if it's using heating a bit less, because it's colder outside or something else (more showers or cooking as boys grow?) - probably a mixture of them all.

Morning everyone.

That is bitter cold this morning . I've got some ice inside the windows ! Off to take the car to the garage for an MOT later today, my wife's picking me up from there on the way back from swimming. Frost and fog to contend with.

Price gouging.

Some food firms may be using inflation as an excuse to hike prices further than necessary, the chairman of Tesco has said.

Asked by the BBC's Laura Kuenssberg if food producers were taking advantage of the poorest in society, John Allan said it was "entirely possible".

He said Tesco was trying "very hard" to challenge price hikes it thinks are illegitimate.

Food costs including milk and cheese are rising at their fastest since 1977.

Mr Allan said all supermarkets were challenging cost increases from suppliers where they could - and Tesco was confronting companies it believed were increasing prices beyond what was necessary.

The FAO Food Price Index* (FFPI) averaged 132.4 points in December 2022, down 2.6 points (1.9 percent) from November, marking the ninth consecutive monthly decline and standing 1.3 points (1.0 percent) below its value a year ago.

We finally got our Sunday roast but we booked in advance this time. (I don't like being pinned down to when I should be hungry.) It was not perfect but decent enough, including decent puds this time. Why do they so often have overcooked, dry ones that taste like cardboard at Marston pubs (and Greene King) if they've shown they can manage decent ones today? There were a couple of families having to wait when we got there - but not too long. So, still busy, but not as bad as the last few months. Weather got murkier as the day went on. 2.3C high.

Finally West Ham win a game of football. Think if we had lost, Moyes would have been sacked!Hopefully this will give Moyes a bit of confidence, to let our players be more attacking.

Because our small car is still off the road after 11 days to get its clutch and gearbox out, probably at a hefty price to come, I've had to shop today with the old big car. It's clocked up some mileage this week with Mrs A using it for work too, and is approaching 106k (for us out of 120k) of faultless running apart from a replaced battery and occasionally being sluggish on iffy petrol. I went to SBRY which was quietish and had loads of out of stocks again. Next shop will be Asda - though I think I said that last time! One woman had a mask under her chin and she was the one coughing! The drive out was beautiful but a murky thaw had set in on the way back. We've had a cumulative 3 weeks of very cold weather now. I'd like to Spring to come, although it might be nice to see some snow here before we're done. Snow can make lots of fleeting visits in March to May anyway so - roll on Spring!

wllm, thanks for updating.

QPR having to settle for another draw conceding in the last ten minutes again. The win should have been sewn up after going 1-0 but we hit the crossbar and our earlier scorer Jamal Lowe missed from ten yards in the second half. That's one win in the last thirteen. But I'd settle now for a mid-table finish.

Cezanne paintings at Tate Modern were fantastic.

Thanks wllm, getting very tight near the top, considering the universe of stocks held here.
Fog cleared mid morning allowing temp to rise above freezing.
Not enough to warm the pitch for our away fixture at Chesterfield called off, so losing ground to Wrexham who won at Maidstone in only 2 fixtures played in this league today.

It was a stunning walk and saved some money heating the house!. Lots of ice after the floods, icicles, varying types of beautiful frost on shrubs and trees. I'm almost glad football was off. It would have been too cold to sit around. 2.3C (never felt that high!) after -4.8C. The sun never made it through the fog and it's thickening again. Already back to -1.8C.

Forecast -1C last night and sunny 5C today. We had -4.8C and currently -2.5C and thick fog so they've underforecasted the cold again. It was -8.1C at Harrogate last night and is still -4.1C at 10am. I'm having to check football is not likely to be frozen off before I set off!

In view of the halving of the AEA ceiling in the next tax year, have this week fully utilised my CGT allowance and taken my sold CLIG profits into it. Was unable in 2012/13 to buy CLIG as an ISA stock but will be as I move it now. I like the yield free of this pesky dividend tax.

Have a slightly warmer w/e.

It's been really cold this week, needed the heating on a fair bit costing around £12 per day, looks warmer next week so hopefully claw some of that back, not too concerned though as we are over £900 in credit.

Tennis tomorrow hopefully, will be my first match in 3 weeks so likely to be rusty.
