19/4/2017 17:40 | I'm down -0.240% on the day today (FTSE100 -0.464%). Worst falls: RDSB -2.73%, S32 -1.98% and DGE -1.92%. Best rises: TW. +2.37%, LLOY +2.35% and KGF +2.19%. So the oils have fallen and the miners stabilised, except for S32 who have decided not to buy an Aussie Mine. Some useful rises. I have found out that my favourite dental hygienist has suffered a brain haemorrhage, survived but has some after effects. A great shame, because she was not that old, 50 maybe. Her replacement, Laura, is very good. The election vote was easily won, so it is all go. Going to sleep for two years might be a good option. DF | deanforester
19/4/2017 17:40 | +0.06% for the Folio. [FTSE250 +0.62%]. Highest value risers : ALT +24.2%, BRSN +2.5%, CSN +1.9%. Worst value fallers : CLIG -2.9%, NG. -1.7%, GSK -1%. FTSE250 failed to ignite my shares, am just sitting tight now. Cause for celebration even after the ending of a fine run of home results on BH Monday, Notts C are mathematically safe from being relegated into National League. Season ticket renewed today. | blueliner
19/4/2017 17:34 | Perhaps I should say that today is the first day in a fair while that my lot have shown a decent performance. | freddie ferret
19/4/2017 17:33 | LibDems are being strongly talked up by the BBC since they were and are strong remainers. The reality is that they are only on 12% in the polls only slightly ahead of UKIP (currently in restructuring with changes being put in place for such things as the constitution ie fundamentals) currently on 10%. As I say, expect to hear a lot more about the LibDems from the BBC. | freddie ferret
19/4/2017 17:28 | Despite an excellent day for the banks, the SIPP still suffered a bit with a small fall of -0.14% SSE, NG. & BP. so anything to do with utilities or energy was bad news today. The pot managed +0.59% thanks to LLOY, SGC & DC. Reported Missing looks interesting, missed last week's first episode, is it worth catching up? | mrphil
19/4/2017 16:57 | -0.5% for me. FTSE100 testing support around 7100. 6800 next if that goes? A chilly grey day. 15.4C high most definitely did not feel it. | aleman
19/4/2017 14:41 | I see the pound got tantalisingly close to my target at lunchtime! Need to improve our YTD average of 1.1715 | mrphil
19/4/2017 09:22 | In 2016, 4534 stores opened in the UK while 5430 closed, a net change of minus 896. This figure represents the closure of more shops last year than in 2015, when the high street recorded a net change of minus 498. Harley-Davidson Financial Services originated $709.8 million — up 3.8% year-over-year — in the first quarter, according to the company’s earnings call today. Annualized net losses — at 2.3% in 1Q — were up 33 basis points from the prior-year quarter, and to top the highest level the captive has seen since the fourth quarter of 2010, when losses were at 2.11%. | aleman
19/4/2017 08:33 | I'm guessing this can't have helped the BP. sp? | mrphil
19/4/2017 08:25 | Morning All. The pound is getting mighty close to my 1.2 target and I have been on a buying spree in the build up to it so I hope it hangs around there for a while! Potted up some of the Cosmos seedlings last night, just 10 pots each with three seedlings so we get a mix of colours. The rest are looking a bit straggly and have fallen all over the place in the seedtray so will have to decide what to do with them all! | mrphil
19/4/2017 08:07 | Not noticed any bad UK numbers this morning, although the £ will add a bit of pressure if it continues to rise. GSachs, Johnson&Johnson and IBM all turned in weak numbers in the US. Are all the US profit warnings in consumer and small stocks spreading into the wider market of global megacaps? | aleman
18/4/2017 23:14 | The one thing we can be certain of is that the polls will be wrong, but nobody knows which way around. The manifestos will make for interesting reading. Who knows what might happen in the far flung parts of the Kingdom? Will Sturgeon be kippered? Will the minor parties vanish in a puff of smoke? Might there be a Lib-Dem resurgence? Can Labour actually formulate a policy? The media are going to have a field day. And whither the markets? DF | deanforester
18/4/2017 19:59 | Recessionary trend in US restaurant sales continues Recessionary motorbike sales in US Planes not selling well? Good results from B of A but consumer credit provisions up 58%. Atlanta Fed Q1 GDP forecast now fallen from 3.4% annualised at start of Feb to 0.5% now. | aleman
18/4/2017 18:49 | -0.5% for me. I get the feeling the vote might backfire. Tories might lose their sole Scottish seat and Labour is so weak it might swing more to SNP and create a constitutional crisis with an even louder cry for a 2nd independence vote. What happens if UKIP sees no need to run this time and Labour does badly England. Will there be a huge swing to the LibDems which takes some marginal seat off the Tories in the South while the hardcore Labour seats hold up in the North, creating a net Tory loss? Equally, a messy French election could see a bigger vote for the Brexit and the Tories. I think the result might be less predictable than some seem to think. It's a risky gambit in my book. | aleman
18/4/2017 18:35 | Nice pictures, MrP. Welcome back. The exchange rate may be pleasing you. I'm down -1.669% on the day today (FTSE100 -2.458%). Worst falls: BLT -5.59%, S32 -4.23% and BP. -3.93%. Best rises: MKS -1.93%, SGRO +0.92% and TW. +0.86%. Miners and oils down, builders and certain retailers up. I think we are in for an interesting couple of months. Pity that she couldn't go for May 4th, to save having two lots of elections. A lady from Bristol on the radio said it all. I've had my retinopathy scan this morning, a funeral and a wake in the middle of the day and a session with the practice nurse late afternoon. She has put me on a new set of pills, Ramipil, at a very low dose. Tomorrow it is the hygienist, but the fair Jennie is still off ill, so there is Laura as a substitute. She seemed OK three months ago. I hope Jennie has nothing serious. I'm getting behind with my reading. Too much gardening. About 80 orchids showing now. Will I break the ton this year? 18/4/2017 17:54 | -1.18% for the Folio. [FTSE250 -1.16%] so in line. Worst value fallers : SDV -4.9%, BLT -5.6%, GSK -3.7%, BGO -6.5%, HSBA -2.8% and plenty more. Highest value risers : MCL +5.8%, BMS +4.4%, RTC +5.5%. TM, taking a calculated gamble but it was my call as well. Remainers like me who have accepted the inevitable [albeit it with a sprinkling of softening], should know where to vote. Good luck to the Scots staying with us. | blueliner
18/4/2017 17:49 | Lovely day here too, albeit a chilly light breeze. Not much blue on the screen though, SIPP -1.41% BP. GSK, & BRCI and the pot -1.03% AMS, RDSB & AIEA Peter Kay's car share tonight. Missed the first episode last week but enjoyed the last series so may need to catch up. | mrphil
18/4/2017 17:44 | Good afternoon - welcome back MrP. Wllm - I echo the memories above - so best of luck with the driving instruction! My SIPP finished down 1.21%. Another largely Sunny day, again feeling cold in the wind @12°C. | skinny
18/4/2017 17:44 | Yes I agree freddie, I think she has done exactly the right thing. This time last week | mrphil
18/4/2017 17:35 | Very happy with T May's decision. Expected it. Soft budget, expenses scandal prosecutions and resignations looming, need for clear water for Brexit negotiations, need for a personal mandate, opinion polls favourable. Could not have votes of no confidence occuring during the negotiations. Good news. Also gives the Scotts a chance to vote. | freddie ferret
18/4/2017 16:58 | We had a group of these guys swimming around the boat on our way back to Bergen! | mrphil |
