Chart looks weak - failed resistance several times at 570ish and I expect it to fall. First target 500p but could go even lower. Would need to decisively break 575-580 on the upside to convince me it's "gone the other way!"

Brain, thanks for that, I guess a lot of people are the same using a mix, although the traders will bring out the silver bullets at the mention of the "F" word ;) So you must give more credence to charts than the 50/50 coin flip! ( Mind you the coin works for me sometimes)

Glad there's someone else trading DGE ! It needs to get out of this area, either south of the 660 or north of 792 ! We'll see. The trading is good thank you.

Aquila...
I use loads of stuff to decide on when to go short or long...trading ranges,broker tips,charts etc.
As for Diageo,I've traded it recently myself,when it was in the £6.60-£7.50 trading range earlier this year.. a good trading share,with a bit of stability.
By the way ..hows the trading going ??

brain smiley , are you buying on any weakness? You will find that most people are happy to hear a serious fundamental reason for any stock, although many will make decisions based purely on charts. If you believe this is a shoert , medium or long term buy and hold I'd be grateful for your opinion.

Has anyone looked at the trades for today. It looks odd to me that almost all trades were AT's (automatic SETS trades ). Unusual. Any views ?

Personally I think we will perhaps hit the 580s monday as part of the general euphoria over stock reweightings followed by a decline over the next week or two down to 540 to 520p region before consolidation again.

Chart does not look bullish enough to me for it to break out of its down trend channel and the indicators over a 3-6 month period are weakening i.e. momentum/rsi measures. Even on a one week basis no looking clever, likewise on a 12 month basis.

Still win, win for me. If it goes anywhere near 7gbp this stock will probably get the full 240 volt shorting treatment.

brain drain - wasssssup with you mate? Its nothing personal, grow up. There are people and banks and trading houses and pension funds buying and selling and opening shorts and taking losses and profits every day and they've all got different opinions and the market doesn't care less. You've got to get a sense of perspective. If you're making money on it then good for you but don't get carried away with those who have a different opinion to yours. At the moment it IS a low risk short based on the chart trend of lower tops over the last 10 months. Whether that works or not we shall see and if it doesn't - thats why you have stops. If you chill out a bit you'll find that most people on this bb are a good bunch - even evil shorters like dodddy.

long term chart nam mid-way between high low positions of decent support/resistance. if it breaks 450p sell. top of channel 650p. not relevant to short term trading however.
