DbD,

it's always been a problem with housebuilding. It's the nature of the game. Boom and bust.

Every time there's a building boom there's a shortage of tradesmen because of the previous recession. House builders need labour so they employ anyone that's breathing. Boom turns to bust and around we go.

I've seen it maybe 4 or 5 times in the last 30 years.

I've seen walls in 1920's houses with a 3" dip in the middle from top to bottom, ihat takes some doing over 8'. That's every wall in every room.

I've also worked with plasterers who can get it flat and smooth blindfolded. I wasn't that good, I needed to have my eyes open and even then I was only competent.

I've retired now.

Thanks for the interesting exchanges.

Well, even if they don't work brilliantly, it just curtails growth a bit and doesn't affect the steep discount the shares are trading at. If on the other hand sales take off, all the better.

Yes, sympathise, Donut. But that's why these new systems are trying to deal with the imperfections you are talking about.

Have faith, brother. Don't be negative. Remember: the photo film companies said the same about digital cameras. Look at them now.

You are right edmundshaw. Fixers will resist but eventually learn to love it. If a wall is wonky, it is wonky for any method. As you say, these days most walls ate even.

No more than regular tiling. Unless of course you plan re-screeding the wall. But that's true of both systems!

They do a lot of work for new builds. Do they not have pretty flat walls? I can see there are problems for wonky old Georgian properties, but surely there even the added en suites would be reasonable surfaces? Just asking...

If that is the case then you just as well tile it properly.

So you're saying you need to straighten the wall out first?

You are wrong. There will be a substrate to cope with uneven walls at least to the extent that adhesive can!

Cristalgrip is essentially velcro , so for starters unless your background surface is completely flat ie: well inside SR1 regs you'll have lips everywhere .
'Lemon' was the term I was told by someone . Just to say I won't be topping up on the back of this product.

They need to make some decent snot that tilers want to use first tbh. Had a poll on a site I use with other tilers recently and as I recall not one person voted for NXR products.

DbD - Tiler for 28yrs

I might also tile more of my walls if it gets easier (and cheaper in manhours is good too). Not sure about doubling the extent x frequency though, but perhaps there will be a good margin, at least at first.

Andrew,

Yes, CristalGrip could revolutionise tile fixing. Consider:-

- easier for DIY/homeowners
- quicker for fixing trade
-but the biggie: where tiles are changed every 6 years (at best) because of difficulty and cost of tile removal (inertia), this product could encourage more rapid fashion change (as wallpaper) and more than double the size of annual consumption world-wide
fixers will initially worry about impact on their current skill set/work load, but the increase in market size will more than compensate

NX need to tell the story and sell the dream!

I do wonder if Miton are still selling. Certainly seems so.

Prospective yield 4.8%, PER of 6. Good cashflow paying down debt.

Seems cheap.

I am very disappointed in Norcros as a few years ago I sold my Topps Tiles when they were in difficulties and used the proceeds to invest in Norcros. Since then Topps Tiles seemes to have gone from strength to strength, or at least their share price has while Norcros share price has only ticked up a little.

Looking good this morning. As a previous holder of NXR, glad I got back on board at 140 which did seem like a good value level.
