The AG Barr/Britvic situation may be helping Nichols. The new merged entity (if created) looks likely to totally crater the Barr balance sheet so I can't see risk averse investors staying with it.

Hi topvest, congratuations on waiting a few more days to get almost 10% more than me, I have been putting my money into SPRP http://uk.advfn.com/cmn/fbb/thread.php3?id=24324751 what (if anything) are you reinvesting in? 3800

Same here - sold half of my holding today. Didn't really want to as this is a great company, but they had nearly quadrupled since buying just over 2 years ago. The share price had gone vertical so seemed very imprudent not to get my initial investment and more back. Great company this, but a profit is a profit!

Well I have sold half my holding since last posting and the price has already gone even higher. I have been in since £1.17 and it's been an excellent investment so far. 3800

3800.....tend to agree but there is a lot of cash in the balance sheet that needs to be factored in to any valuation. The other thing is this company has got to be taken out at some stage and its bound to happen just after you sell!!! No double top yet so I'll ride it for a bit longer.

As a long term holder I have to agree things are looking well, however the share price is rising much faster than the rise in earnings and with it the risk of a severe pull back, rather than adding more I am considering selling afew. 3800

I was thinking of adding a bit more if/when it broke through £8... might still do so next week. I still think prospects are good for the long term

ryandj...........I thought your comment looked over-optimistic until I witnessed today's share price performance. This thing just refuses to go down. You may well prove to be right.

While John Nichols is the only family member to hold a notifiable interest of over 5% I do beleive other family members combined hold a significant amount not sure if it would be enough to stave off a takeover though. There was one mooted a few years back which came to nothing, with results like these I too would like the company to remain independent. 3800

3800...............I haven't got a problem with that as it is organic growth funded from cash flow. Problem for Nichols (and shareholders) is that predators can also see this!

At the last shareholders meeting when questioned about the dividends failing to keep pace with rising profits it was stated by the chairman that the cash pile was stratigic to further expansion. 3800

Fortunately, it doesn't rain much in the Middle East where a lot of Nichols growth seemd to be coming from! The cash pile is now significant and must either be a) reinvested b)heading back towards shareholders or c) likely to attract predators. Any of these scenarios is likely to be positive for shareholders.

LONDON (Dow Jones)--Nichols PLC (NICL.LN), a London-listed soft drinks business, Wednesday said sales in the four months to the end of April showed double-digit growth. The company didn't give any figures but said U.K. sales growth is significantly up on the prior year following the launch of its new Weight Watchers range of low calorie soft drinks. Nichols said international sales to the Middle East, Africa and its developing markets also continue to deliver solid growth, without giving further details. "At this early stage of the financial year we are very pleased with the group's continuing progress and we are confident of delivering further sales and earnings growth in line with full year expectations," said non-executive chairman John Nichols. At 0710 GMT, shares +8.5 pence, or 1.2%, at 706.0 pence.

Not much wrong with this:- AGM Statement John Nichols, Non-Executive Chairman of Nichols plc (the "Group"), the soft drinks group, will make the following statement at the Group's Annual General Meeting to be held later today: Current Trading "I am pleased to report that our strong trading momentum has continued into the first four months to April 2012, with Group sales showing double digit growth against last year's very strong comparatives. This has been achieved despite the wider economic and consumer challenges and an extremely competitive UK soft drinks market. Boosted by the launch of our new Weight Watchers range of low calorie soft drinks, our UK sales growth is ahead of the market and significantly up on the prior year. International sales to the Middle East, Africa and our developing markets also continue to deliver solid growth for the Group. At this early stage of the financial year we are very pleased with the Group's continuing progress and we are confident of delivering further sales and earnings growth in line with full year expectations." The Queen's Award for Enterprise Nichols plc has a long standing, successful export business which in recent years has delivered strong growth for the Group. I am delighted to confirm that this has been recognised and we have been awarded a Queen's Award for International Trade. This prestigious award is made annually by H. M. the Queen to businesses achieving substantial overseas growth for a sustained period.
