You raise some valid points and agree with a lot of that. Simon is extremely sharp, so would hope he will steer this through what looks to be an imminent recession. For me Next is not an add at current levels given the backdrop, but always a case of DYOR.

Retail has got to be really screwed. I think that's a given. Online? I appreciate that I'm an old fogey but would their typical customer really be spending money on non-essentials? Surely most sensible people (and everyone I know without exception) is concerned about cash preservation. Would cash preservation also be prudent for Next? I know that suspending the dividend would be unpalatable but shouldn't that be a consideration until we know where we're heading.

Next financial year ends 31st January so I can't see there being a huge impact on reported results. Although this depends on how much they do to bring forward some of next year costs to try and even things out. However, it is current trading that really concerns me (and the markets I suspect). I just cant see many people choosing to spend money on clothes with the threat of bankruptcies, large scale job losses, empty supermarkets, and caring for sick loved ones. I really don't have a clue but I suspect market sentiment might see this sub £30 on Thursday.

A bored public will soon be shopping online, at Next. Go away ... your 50 GBP spreadbet won't pay you enough for a coffee.
