12/9/2022 16:01 | I've taken this off the LLOY thread: Truss’s Stimulus Set to Boost UK Lenders, Deutsche Bank Says. The “extraordinari The package aimed at combating rising household energy costs will probably prevent a short-term collapse in the economy, and at the same time encourage further interest-rate rises from the Bank of England -- adding to margins on lending -- Robert Noble and Rohan Singhal wrote in a note to clients. The combined effect could be a 13% increase in 2024 sector-wide earnings, they said, noting NatWest Group Plc and Lloyds Banking Group Plc would benefit most. Lenders’ share prices have a 40% upside, on average, they added. Separately, strategists at Credit Suisse said Monday that the UK remains its top overweight and highlighted “very cheap” British banks as their preferred sector. Lenders have outperformed even as the pound has slumped, reflecting the benefit of rising rates, according to strategists including Andrew Garthwaite. The sector is more resilient to potential loan losses than in prior recessions, they said. unquote | polar fox

06/9/2022 14:35 | The FTSE has been rising nicely since Friday morning, financials included - NWG is up around 18p since the 240p low then. For the record, the gap down after the bank holiday weekend was from 269.34 on the rebased chart (250.10 in old money). 270 is easier to remember. With the Buffoon finally gone and interest rates continuing to rise - RBA up today, BoC probably up tomorrow, BoE next week, Fed the week after and so on - there's probably a decent S/T prospect of NWG getting back up to 270. That would tidy things up nicely. | polar fox
01/9/2022 12:00 | Notice that ADVFN has finally got round to re-basing the 2-yr chart above - by multiplying all levels by the magic 1.076923077. In practical terms, for example, the high was 264.10 on the 17th, that is now 284.4154. If you look at a one-yr daily bar chart, there is now a bearish island reversal on such a chart, as I've been posting about since the weekend. It doesn't show on the chart above, simply because ADVFN's setup isn't sophisticated enough to handle it properly. But there is a gap up at the end of July and a gap down last Tuesday and all the trading in between is clearly an 'island'. How the market deals with it S/T and M/T remains to be seen, but it's been downhill since Tuesday, of course. If you have any questions regarding the TA, I'll be pleased to answer them (if I can). Remember, you can go to Google for the Investopedia write-up on a bearish island reversal. | polar fox
