31/5/2017 21:32 | Corbyn only decided to go this morning - a U-turn as good as you get. The BBC audience seemed biased to me and not representative although it was suppose to be I'm not sure on what basis. I do agree that TM should have stuck to Brexit more strongly in her campaigning to date and kept clear of introducing controversial policies. Corbyn's money tree does worry me a lot; his two E's at A-level from a middle class boarding grammar school in subjects which never seem to get mentioned and later dropping out from a course in trade union studies at North London Polytechnic after rowing with his tutors do not exactly suggest he has a head for figures and negotiation which I would have thought would be a requirement for negotiating a successful Brexit. | bountyhunter
31/5/2017 18:08 | Well I'm not sure if it was complacency or just complete stupidity by the tories on their manifesto. All they had to do was stick to Brexit and leave the other bits until later and they would have walked it. Stuffing the older sector who are almost certain to vote for them just seems like sheer madness. To be fair to Jeremy he's done a good job of campaigning and really got the Tories rattled. We'll see how he gets on in the leader debate now since he's decided to attend after all so that means only TM will be missing which certainly won't help her. We should all be worried about our finances because if by some miracle Corbyn does win we'd better all get ready for another 2008 situation. | warranty
31/5/2017 16:28 | True, but who will need to print the most money to support their manifesto pledges thereby increasing inflation and devaluing the pound the most significantly going forwards? | bountyhunter
31/5/2017 16:21 | One of the problems that many on these boards do not understand is that there is more money in circulation than there are goods to buy so all "investors" are doing is looking for somewhere to park their money so that they can protect its value. If you really want to protect value buy gold. A gold bar is always worth a gold bar. A pound coin is only worth what it can buy and unless governments stop printing money by allowing debt to accrue then a pound becomes worthless. We are swimming in a tide of private debt which is increasing. Sooner or later the debt has to be repaid and then watch the house built on sand crumble. | darias
31/5/2017 15:56 | Darias, Financial Tax? NG re-nationalised? Corporation Tax raised making it harder for hard working professionals to invest their money for a reasonable return because Company profits will be hit? BTW, MacDonnell has said he will use Government bonds to purchase shares to bring NG back into Public ownership. This meathod has been used before by the Labour party and the bonds are worth nothing, they will be classes as junk bonds. The shareholders were hit with huge losses. He then went on to say he wants to use the millions of pounds of profits to go back to the people. Re-distribution of wealth? Wasn't that what Lenin did? | utyinv
31/5/2017 15:34 | UtyINV Cannot understand anyone on a Financial BB voicing support for him; its like Turkeys voting for Christmas And I cannot understand anyone on a Financial BB not supporting Jeremy. After all most on these boards trade the dips. A surprising Labour win would clearly affect the market and allow profits to be made. | darias
31/5/2017 15:21 | Bounty, New Certificates (for those that may hold some stock in certificate form) will be despatched on 2nd June when the Special Dividend is also despatched. All in place and ready to be sent out according to Registrars. | utyinv
31/5/2017 15:13 | Arf D, I take it you're a Corbynist? :) Either way you look at it, investors should be worried about Corbyn as he wants a re-distribution of wealth which invariably will effect those that trade, have stocks and have property. He is an unashamed Marxist. Cannot understand anyone on a Financial BB voicing support for him; its like Turkeys voting for Christmas. Anyway, we will see Week-on-Friday what the situation is. | utyinv
31/5/2017 15:05 | don't know about timing of divi checks - the registrar should though (maybe on the certificates if you hold these) | bountyhunter
31/5/2017 14:32 | thanks b/ hunter , I have checked all over the place and get the same answer for the special div? can I expect a cheque this Friday? 02/06/ 2017is payment day ? | neddo
31/5/2017 11:59 | It seems current tory policy to cap electricity bills, thereby accelerating the date the lights go out. Bills have to rise rapidly just to match the increase in the 'green' element in them, and to pay for more nukes (once they decide we can't manage without them), so capping bills is suicidal imv. | pierre oreilly
31/5/2017 10:20 | If you want the lights to go out, and you want to queue for bread, then vote Corbyn. Guaranteed! | redartbmud
31/5/2017 09:53 | Let's just call it a Corbyn tax ;) I don't think I should have bought politics into this but it will be hard to avoid for the next 8 days and swings one way or another will affect the market and in particular the utilities. | bountyhunter
31/5/2017 09:25 | The Financial transaction tax or Tobin tax? The sooner the better please. | luderitz
31/5/2017 09:12 | Ha! Brian Cox would have had one thing he was prepared for, and which he had studied for years. Note he's also a scientist, where the goal posts don't keep moving every other week, as they do with politicians. Notice how Theresa May positively and definitely says "we have the figures" without giving them, or something like "We must consult on this, as it's a difficult issue." That's the same as not knowing the figures, i.e. they haven't worked it out yet. I'm sure that a proposal for running the country (i.e. a manifesto) has not just one figure, but a thousand figures, and of course that can't be remembered. One has to have notes or (for example in the Woman's Hour interview with Jeremy Corbyn) an iPad to keep the figures. JC was criticised for having to look something up on the iPad. Doh! I don't expect Jeremy Corbyn to memorise every word and every figure, just as we wouldn't expect Theresa May to memorise every word and every figure. Jeremy Corbyn does have a communications problem, which is the REAL problem, and many commentators try to misrepresent that as incompetence. | arf dysg
31/5/2017 08:42 | and who I'm sure would have known the figures ;~) | bountyhunter
31/5/2017 00:29 | Beaten by prof Brian Cox, who got a 'd' in maths. | pierre oreilly
30/5/2017 22:20 | I heard this evening that Jeremy Corbyn got two Es at A-level; sure he seems like a nice guy but do we really want him negotiating Brexit and leading the country? Even many traditional Labour voters must have their doubts about his personal suitability. | bountyhunter
30/5/2017 21:07 | I think the chances of winning must be close to zero. However it will all depend on the performance in the marginal seats, given Labour have lost so many seats in Scotland it is difficult envisage a labour victory. | atlantic57
30/5/2017 19:44 | Interesting week ahead; 7 days of uncertain trading days left then either May wins with a conviction and the shares rocket or Corbyn gets a coalition which will destroy markets for years. We will have a clearer picture on June 9th :) | utyinv
30/5/2017 13:52 | you will need to ask Jeremy Corbyn that one | bountyhunter
30/5/2017 13:41 | Does a financial transaction tax include tax on cash withdrawals from your bank account? | willoicc
