28/8/2018 17:41 | TV stuff is just slow moving to date I think. Most interesting prompt thread is the new factory capacity for the secret listed USA client, but the firm doesn't seem to be a one trick pony. Roll on the high res monitors. Monitor and TV = pretty much the same animals. Once you have a high end display product, that's the way surely to penetrate high end TVs. | paulpaolo
28/8/2018 17:24 | Here's hoping for a little more meat on Nanoco's old bones - heaven knows investors deserve it. Been pretty depressing last couple of years. | howl01

27/8/2018 09:47 | AU Optronics (AUO) will showcase at Touch Taiwan 2018 an array of gaming applications, including what it claims is the world's largest 65-inch 4K (3840 x 2160) big format gaming display (BFGD). The LCD panel maker will also exhibit at the annual event from August 29-31 its 4K gaming monitor displays that adopt mini LED backlight technology with ultra high brightness and high dynamic range, and a gaming monitor display with 240Hz refresh rate. For gaming notebook applications, AUO said it will showcase mini LED-backlit 4K LTPS LCDs, 4K LCDs with HDR 600 high dynamic range, and narrow border LCDs with 144Hz refresh rate. High resolution BFGD As gaming events grow continuously in scale, gaming displays also increase in terms of size, resolution and refresh rate. AUO said it has given a strong focus to large gaming displays. Its 65-inch 4K bezel-less BFGD boasts 144Hz refresh rate and quantum dot wide color gamut. Its accurate and timely local dimming effect, combined with 1,000 nits ultra high brightness, meets the highest VESA DisplayHDR performance level, AUO said. Mini LED-backlit gaming monitors Also targeting at high-end gaming and niche application markets, AUO will exhibit 27- and 32-inch 144Hz gaming monitor displays adopting direct-lit mini LED backlight. Equipped with 4K high resolution and quantum dot wide color gamut, and local dimming effect combined with 1,000 nits ultra high brightness, the displays boast HDR images to meet the highest VESA DisplayHDR performance level, capturing both bright and dark image details in games, AUO said. 240Hz refresh rate AUO said it will showcase a 25-inch gaming monitor display with 240Hz refresh rate, equipped with full HD (1920 x 1080) resolution, bezel-less design, and 0.5ms response time to fully eliminate image lag and broken pictures. Motion images are sharp without blurs, especially fit for target shooting games where there is not even a millisecond to spare. Its 27-inch QHD (2560 x1440) gaming monitor display boasts 165Hz ultra high refresh rate and 1ms response time, and is currently the fastest gaming monitor display equipped with AHVA technology, AUO added. High spec gaming notebook applications For gamers on the move, AUO will present a 17.3-inch UHD 4K gaming notebook PC display, adopting edge-lit backlighting to achieve HDR 600 high dynamic range. The 17.3-inch full HD narrow border gaming notebook PC has a 4mm border width, a frame rate of 144Hz, and could achieve as fast as 3ms response time, the panel maker said. Its 15.6-inch 4K LTPS gaming notebook PC display adopts mini LED technology. With 240 dimming zones, the display meets the highest VESA DisplayHDR performance level with peak brightness of over 1,000 nits, it added. | bagpuss67
27/8/2018 06:06 | not sure I agree with that analysis notimp. Rethink? A lot will depend on patents, barriers to entry for potential competition, and of course ultimately supply and demand. If there is a definite demand then economies of scale can be brought into play and with production the more you make the cheaper the unit price. Unless you're being screwed over by your suppliers but then it's up to you to attempt to resource elsewhere or 'offshore'. The initial high rp may make it difficult to gauge demand so sometimes you may need to take a margin hit if it helps drive sales which of course if successful may then actually assist with lowering production costs. The problem here is there's a complete fog as to what is really going on but the 'revenue' gives the game away. | boris cobaka
26/8/2018 13:35 | every new technology is highly priced at launch, as more players come on board and production rises costs, both production and sales rapidly fall away, as the product becomes mainstream. | notimpressed
25/8/2018 10:50 | "As such, and as part of Gamescom coverage, press was made aware by NVIDIA partners of a recent delay decision for these BFGD panels' market introduction - they've been moved to Q1 2019. And as the launch timeframe has jumped, so have cost estimates for the end-user: these now sit between the €4,000 and €5,000 ballpark, making these displays, with as much tech as they have, a difficult buy to stomach." ah.... | bagpuss67
