Morgan Sindall launches standardised school design
Aaron Morby
Thu 2nd August
Morgan Sindall has launched a standardised school design to help cash-strapped local education authorities upgrade schools.
The builder said it would draw on the expertise of subsidiary Morgan Sindall Investments to unlock funding options to ensure projects are viable.
These will include increasingly prevalent asset backed vehicle and land swap arrangements in addition to leasing and project finance structures.
The Community Plus product is a range of new standard designs based on timber frame structures for primary schools and a shell and core approach and built around a steel frame for secondary schools.
The new designs draw on the firm's experience of building 261 primary schools, 64 secondary schools and seven academies during the last three years.
Graham Shennan, managing director of Morgan Sindall, said: "We've taken the time to look at what's really important in education and settled upon a two-tier approach, where we can offer development solutions through Community Plus alongside a new range of model schools."
Nigel Badham, MSIL Director, said: "In today's budgetary environment for schools, access to funding is more important than ever.
"There is a clear need for innovative thinking which could well include unlocking the value of land assets that local authorities, free schools and academies already own." ...

Looks like a very stable platform for long term ISA pension investments, if I can get >7% PA returns I'm in.

Agreed, have also held for many years, buying when cheap, selling some when high and banking nice dividends along the way. My average buy price is now £1.64 so MGNS has been a good core holding here too.

One of my core stocks. I have made a lot of money (on paper) from this company, but I am well down on the good old days. When the economy recovers they should do very well, and are not doing badly in this difficult time. I have pocketed a lot of dividend too over a number of years. All round a good share to buy and hold.

I am cautiously optimistic about tomorrow. The main factor for me is that the divi is not cut.

Last year the annual results were issued in mid Feb. Have we been told when they will be announced this year? It should be within the next 2 weeks. From previous Man. Statements I hardly think the divi could be cut, and it is at a satisfactory level.

Smicker, I think you can look at high div likely to be maintained, good management, steady business in difficult period, plenty new contracts. And, though margins are currently low, it would only take a small improvement in margins to produce a huge increase in profits.

Looks as if it will come good soom.

It is indeed a good company, and hence the fall to ~540 was strange, but equally the recent rise again compared to many construction stocks which have kept their value throughout.
Still, makes it good for trading.

Me too, although it was on my short-list (not a list of companies I intend to short)to buy more for the divi, but before I made a decision it has shot up. It does look a well-managed company in an allegedly difficult market, but orders keep coming in.

Morgan Sindall poaches regen chief to head schools push
Aaron Morby
Tue 6th December
Morgan Sindall has head hunted a former chief of regeneration at Liverpool City Council to chase and develop education project across the country.
Jayne Hettle takes on the new director post for education and will support Morgan Sindall's amibition to provide strategic advice to the local authorities, trusts, and dioceses responsible for education facilities in the UK.
Part of the role involves helping Morgan Sindall bring the resources of its wider parent group to education projects.
These include Morgan Sindall Investments, which provides project funding; Overbury, which specialises in refurbishment; Lovell, the affordable housing specialist; and urban regeneration specialist Muse Developments.
She joins Sindall from Liverpool City Council where she was assistant director for regeneration for more than three years.
Major regeneration projects, asset management, BSF and capital development and strategic investments all fell under her area of responsibility.
A native of the West Midlands, Hettle was previously head of regeneration at Wolverhampton City Council.
She said: "As a group, Morgan Sindall has the strategic resources, insights and contacts to get projects off the ground that might otherwise lack a way forward. .... ....

Trading statement released - on track to meet expectations so all good so far! I think this is a wonderful time to own this share, it looks so much like 2003 - incredibly negative sentiment on a sector at a cyclical low with P/E and yield back to ~7. I really like how this company still has huge founder ownership so you know it's being run for shareholders and I'm impressed by the snapping up of Connaught at distressed prices, laying the foundations for growth when the cycle turns. Really happy to sit back and collect my 7.5% yield till the market turns and the shares get a tasty re-rating...

As far as I can see the shares fell in the sell off but there is just no interest in chasing them higher.

At this level holding the divi is key and I can't see why that shouldn't be the case even on reduced earning expectations

Nobody in this coalition knows what largesse is anyway, so if it happens it will be coincidental.

However, if MGNS retains its divi of 42p for the year, and the share price stays around 520p-540p it is worth buying for the divi even if it takes a year or to for the company to thrive again.

Above I was saying the divi was good at prices below 620p!!! In the past week these could have been snapped up at below 520p. The divi will be great if they hold at 42p. Any comments on this?
