27/5/2002 15:17 | gdjs100 Seems that Numis agrees with you and have upgraded Monsoon....From City wire 15:33, Mon 27 May 2002 Numis goes on retail binge Numis buys Blacks Leisure, Merchant Retail and New Look and adds Monsoon. * Numis has a buy rating and 300p price target for Blacks Leisure after the outdoor clothing chain reported fall in pre-tax profit from £14.5 million to £12.4 million. A big feature was a strong second half as impact of foot and mouth receded. The shares (BSLA) rose 10.5p to 254p. * Numis has also raised its rating on Monsoon to add from hold after the clothing retailer revealed that sales had remained strong since the interims in January and that profits for the year would not be below £31 million, compared with £24.7 million last time. The shares (MSN) rose 3.5p to 135.5p. * The broker has buy ratings for Merchant Retail and New Look, ahead of tomorrow's results, and Amlin and Courts. It has an add rating for GWR following good full-year figures from the Classic FM owner today. | shedloads.com
27/5/2002 15:07 | But have you discounted using the assumption of two stepped interest rate increases and also slower growth over the coming year(s)? You'll then find MSN is already near FV. Judging from the moderate volumes and oscillating prices traded today, I think many agree too. However, it will only fluctuate again with press comment, but as many of them have already recommended it, I wouldn't be surprised if they now said to take profits. | factsonly
27/5/2002 07:27 | 12% LFL is one of the better performances not only across the board, but across clothing retailers. Last time they announced 11% LFL and that was the catalyst for the rerating. They're now standing on a forward PER of only 10, against the likes of New Look on 16. I think MSN would be reasonably valued on a PER of 14, giving them a fair value price of 170p. Remember this 12% is LFL, not 12% absolute growth. The former is far more impressive. | gdjs100
27/5/2002 07:03 | A few people are jumping on thnking the results look good, I personally think they are a bit of a damp squib. Haven't General retail sales in the UK been excellent over the past year, if so why have MSN only managed a 12% rise, I thought they said MSN was going to outperform the general market!? I can't see MSN hitting £1.50+ in the medium/short term unless they announce that full results point to a much larger rise on overall and a good receovery in the US in place and that they raise the darn dividend. But then again, since it's the end of May and with the chance that rates might rise... I think MSN is more or less fairly priced. | factsonly
27/5/2002 06:58 | Didn't know this was due today - nothing in the press. Looks OK - see how the market takes it | morose
27/5/2002 06:35 | Trading statement this morning: Monsoon plc are pleased to announce that trading has remained strong since the interim results were declared on January 21st. Like for like sales for the 52 weeks to 25 May 2002 were up 12% and pre tax profits for the year are expected not to be below £31m. | gdjs100
17/5/2002 08:25 | My feeling is that a few months ago, Monsoon was ridiculously cheap. PEople started buying for that reason, and then more people piled in just to follow the trend. I don't think there's more to it than that. My finger is teetering on the 'sell' button - I don't see a lot more room for upward movement; but then I keep getting proved wrong. | martinc
17/5/2002 05:08 | Any view on why the price has jumped? As a small stakeholder I'm happy but puzzled | msjhaffey
16/5/2002 08:25 | Morose, No problem. LW mailed me last night. Thanks anyway. Hil. | hilary
15/5/2002 19:47 | Hi Morose, I've got your e-mail address if you want to take it down. I'll mail you tomorrow. Thanks. Hil. | hilary
15/5/2002 19:21 | Hilary LW is OK e mail me on billnorman1@aol.com | morose
15/5/2002 13:12 | Morose, Off topic. No sign of littlewillie lately. Is he OK? Hil. | hilary
15/5/2002 12:48 | Some action on the trading front today - someone appears to be stake building. Looking promising this one. | morose
14/5/2002 14:02 | Starting to move up again - anyone heard owt? | morose
19/4/2002 12:42 | They will only beat offers where volumes are small. When you exceed NMS then it tends to be the full spread prices. | factsonly
19/4/2002 12:06 | 9p rise so far, a pleasant surprise! Shame my dividend hasn't been automatically reinvested yet :-( | gdjs100
19/4/2002 09:49 | Quite often brokers search round trying to undercut the offer -- Schwab do this for a fact (I use them) -- and it just seems as though the offer price was undercut by 2p, which happened to be at the mid-price. I've seen trades before on different stocks which have been buys that have gone through closer to the bid price and ADVFN has flagged up as sells... | gdjs100
19/4/2002 08:46 | How did you manage to buy at the mid price? | this_is_me
18/4/2002 20:15 | Because ADVFN can't work out whether the 125p is a buy or a sell, since it is bang on the mid price... | gdjs100
18/4/2002 17:05 | Why are all the buy trades being put in the ? column (and are bang on the mid price of 125p)... I was one of those buying... | factsonly
16/4/2002 20:58 | I think that the two large trades were a matched buy and sell - look at the two prices, the MMs took a small risk free profit to put it through. | this_is_me
16/4/2002 18:38 | Ouch, that has got to hurt the MSN shareprice... 2 lots of 500k shares sold in the closing half hour... seems someone is calling time on MSNs recent surge. | factsonly
12/4/2002 17:40 | MSN is going to have tough Monday morning trying to stay out of the red zone given the hefty selling today. | factsonly
12/4/2002 08:04 | That sounds strange - the year end is 26th May, I think, and final results are mostly July and there has not been trading updates in the past at this time of the year, as far as Me is aware. Me sold out for almost 100% profit since I thought, from the trades, the price was going to fall. I may buy in again although from this mornings reported T trade sell there is a big seller about so if Me was still holding Me would have a tight stop loss (or protect gains!) | this_is_me |
