It is some time since I looked at the scheme but I recall it was complicated and I didn't understand it

That usually, especially in a company like Miton, means it is very advantageous to management

Good point sleepy. As far as I can tell dilution from the various schemes should not be that material and are limited but you are right, it is a factor to take into account.

Complicated but very beneficial share scheme for management I think. Would need to be taken into account in valuation

This is cheap - good update today, strong growth in FUM. If you strip out the £15m cash pile MGR currently valued at 1% of FUM. Its the wrong multiple period.

"In turn, might this make the marketing of Miton's income funds more difficult ?"

I think there are two potential approaches here.

The first is that MITON, as well as other large investors, could impress on small dividend payers that there are likely consequences of cutting dividend payouts. As an example, Falkland Island Holdings cut its dividend and the share price dropped around 25%. Directors might prefer to keep their dividends with increased tax than see their company share price decimated?

The second, if the alternative is share buy backs, is to educate investors that buy backs have ALWAYS been better value for income investors, precisely because of the tax treatment of dividends. (No need to take my word for it..... Warren Buffet has made exactly that point.)

BWDIK.

coolen - I see I didn't answer the right question before - sorry.

You have a point there, though if there's a buyer in a thin market (the company itself), it should be easy to dispose of shares to meet the demand and maintain the same percentage stake. I don't know!

Miton has stakes in a number of small companies where directors have large family holdings -the very guys the dividend tax aims to hit.

If so, might these companies switch emphasis from dividend payments to distributing cash through share buy-backs etc.?

In turn, might this make the marketing of Miton's income funds more difficult ?

coolen - *dividends paid by equity funds will be part of your overall dividend income, and taxed according to the rules (£5,000 annualallowance, etc.). The fund won't be paying the tax, so there'll be no double taxation.

If you have "accumulation units" in an OEIC, they will be taxed as notional dividends.

*I'm open to correction on all of this.

How might the new "dividend tax" affect their income funds ?

Yes, a mild downgrade or profit warning whichever way you look at it. They do have the right sort of products though and AUM are starting to grow again. The new European Fund in H2 looks interesting. Still think this is a great little fund management group that should prosper over the medium term. Definitely a buy anywhere near 20p in my view.

Bit of weakness over the last day or two. Just wondering whether they have failed to get the new trust launched with the Woodford Trust closing a week earlier. My cheque hasn't been banked which looks ominous to me ahead of the Monday closing and Tuesday announcement. It will be a shame if they don't get there as looks a good proposition.

Yes, I've gone for the new trust. Went for Woodford's trust as well, but prefer the new Miton trust.

The Miton Micro-Cap IT is open for subscription, and looks a very worthwhile proposition.

Unfortunately, it may fall short of full raising, with all the fuss over Woodford's offering.

I passed on Woodford, went for Miton.

Fair enough but Simon Thompson was a bit late in. It was a fantastic opportunity a month or two back. Hopeful this will multi- bag from here over the medium term. The group is well run and have some good credentials in the small cap an AIM market.
