30/11/2009 15:27 | Meridian Petroleum closes fundraising ahead of strategy shake-up 30 November 2009 Meridian Petroleum has closed a £6.9 million fundraising which is being used to re-launch the company under a new strategy and new name, President Petroleum Company plc. The majority of the new cash £5.6 million is coming from Levine Capital Management, the investment fund run by Peter Levine, the founder and former chairman of Imperial Energy Corp. The balance is coming from an open offer for shares with Meridian's existing shareholders. In addition, Macquarie Bank is standing by its existing US$50 million debt facility US$35 million of which is earmarked for acquisitions. Meridian has producing assets in the US and exploration licences in Australia, but is planning a strategy shake-up in order to boost its reserves and resources. The company is aiming to become a mid-cap exploration and production company by acquiring critical mass and a strategic presence in key areas of interest, including Asia, Africa and Europe. Stephen Gutteridge, Meridian's chairman, said: "We are delighted with the response to our capital raising from institutional investors and particularly from our large base of private investors." | flyingswan
30/11/2009 15:25 | I doubled up so soon as I read the helpful note posted here, that the resolutions had been carried. My brokers managed to buy within the spread. I will drip feed more into it, as the market's tactics for December become clearer. I am sure MJ will be watching. I know one other with historic professional association with PL, who intends to as well. He asked me to email when it was all sorted out. I have done. | leedskier

30/11/2009 14:35 | PINGU. Its as follows The Placing The Company has conditionally placed 22.25 million new ordinary shares (the "Placing Shares") at 25 pence per share (the "Placing Price") to raise GBP5.6 million (approximately US$8.9 million) before expenses. Levine Capital Management, the BVI registered, private investment fund of Peter Levine, founder and former Chairman of Imperial Energy Corporation PLC, the Russia-focused oil exploration and production company which was acquired by the Indian state-owned energy firm, Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited, for US$2 billion in January 2009, will subscribe for approximately 13.6 million of the Placing Shares, which will represent 29.99 per cent. of the Enlarged Share Capital, and will be subject to a lock-in agreement. | william-just
30/11/2009 14:33 | Pingu08 copying & pasting a portion of the RNS does not change the mathematics of the issue. The fact remains that only 35% of the maximum excess allocation was applied for & of this 35% only 6% was filled. Regards, enq. | enq
