21/4/2018 19:33 | B+ I think the Ancestry site works best if you already know some of the more distant relatives names and where they lived. I certainly agree it must be exciting to find out about ones ancesters. I have a suspicion that if I had found any they would have been rogues and vagabonds too haha. | losos
21/4/2018 18:05 | Well, Losos, that is indeed a long term holding. Thanks for telling us. | meanwhile
21/4/2018 13:35 | MEANWHILE - "On radio or TV for example" I can remember when Mr. Hanson & Mr. White (Long before they were knighted) were on some current affairs programme talking about their meteoric rise in the business world and their success. It was a very long time ago but IIRC the phrase 'asset stripping' was mentioned haha. That interview prompted me to buy some Hanson shares and 50 years latter I am still a shareholder in one of the companies they took over. I won't mention which one it was since some reading this forum might use it to promote their own 'view of the world' but you don't get much more 'long term' than 50 years do you haha. | losos
21/4/2018 12:13 | Definitely Churchill, Thatcher and the headmaster at my primary school, a Second World War hero. | brexitplus
21/4/2018 10:06 | Having some idle thoughts this morning while waiting to leave, I dwelt on the likelihood of seeing these big 3 Melrose men now enter a little more into the limelight of business & maybe even later, into politics. On radio or TV for example. They might well be invited onto Question Time, when there was an 'industrial' topic, or Newsnight, or Countryfile, for some reason. They may also be more likely to be adopted as 'Role Models' by some followers, perhaps some people on this site. The british love role models of course, and in this respect they'll be following current role models such as :- Aung San Suu Kyi, Tony Blair, Donald Trump, Ron Burgundy (my personal favourite), James Dyson, Madonna, Jeremy Corbyn, Vladimir Putin, Michael Barrymore, Warren Buffet, Vince Cable, Margaret Thatcher, Evan Davis and Alan Partridge. Perhaps some readers may want to name their perfect role model from this list, or maybe propose others, say Simon Peckham. | meanwhile
20/4/2018 18:20 | Losos Had a great morning walking at Blaise Castle in Bristol. Lots of dogs of all sizes, walkers, cyclists, bluebells and foghorns from ships in the Bristol Channel at first. Brilliant weather. Wonderful ice cream. No cats thank heaven. Messy creatures. Give me dogs anyday. | brexitplus
20/4/2018 10:54 | A level WOW LOL | minerve
20/4/2018 10:48 | Yertiz Glad to hear from you again. Quite right Re his method. I don’t understand it at all. Even my A level in maths leave me at a loss. But that was quite a while ago so perhaps number aren’t what they used to be. Inflation?!!! | brexitplus
20/4/2018 10:37 | Had to comment on the last two posts in defense of Meanwhile. The numbers MW uses are the same as all the other numbers we use from time to time, just that MW has his own way with them. The rules don't always equate with normal maths, y'know, the ordinary, everyday stuff we were taught in primary school, and sometimes the wrong number combo is used to show he is right. So there. Tip of the day: Hill and Smith. Weather: Proper 'ansum. Travel tip: Avoid Colorado, full of red necks. | yertiz
20/4/2018 10:26 | Final 2 answers for getting :- Ans. 5. No, but my wife has forgiven you. Ans. 6. Yes, we would be delighted to, and thank you for offering to pay. Since my wife is a vegetarian, may we please choose the restaurant? We are quite busy at present so will let you know when we're available, some time next year perhaps. | meanwhile
20/4/2018 10:17 | Getting I got fed up with Meanwhile’s numbers which were quite honestly very poor numbers. I prefer Melrose’s and Goldman Sachs’numbers which are obviously produced by real professionals, not someone who looks to see which way the rain is slanting up in bandit country and obviously a complete amateur. If it’s from the west then positive on Melrose, from the East then negative. From the North or South then very confused and wobbles a lot. | brexitplus
20/4/2018 10:01 | Meanwhile, I need some light entertainment this morning so could you do us one of your 'calculations' please - preferably one where you do an average then express it as a range (and completely forget to include the value of tradeable rights). Thanks. | gettingrichslow
19/4/2018 23:00 | Any animal will be loyal if you keep on feeding them and pandering to their attention 24/7. Dogs are needy. Like Brexit voters. Attention seekers. A dog is an animal. It isn't a human. Anyone who partakes in anthropomorphism needs to go and see a shrink. Losos first. Ha Ha ! | minerve
19/4/2018 22:53 | Losos - "I cannot resist saying that a dogs loyalty far outweighs that of most ('tho not all) two legged humans". I can believe this, having met, and worked with, a lot of humans. Cats are also very loyal, although they don't show it in the same, obvious way as dogs do. I have nothing to say on Melrose. 2 more answers for getting :- Ans. 3. I have never attended a Management Mentoring course. Ans. 4. Certainly not, I prefer my shares to rise in price. | meanwhile
19/4/2018 21:14 | WOW, I am so glad that Melrose beat that mighty titan the Daily Fail. | minerve
19/4/2018 20:36 | Bit of a "bummer" really! | grahamburn
19/4/2018 20:23 | The problem for De La Rue is EU purchasing regulations. Above a certain figure the contract must be advertised across the EU. De La Rue lost to a better bid. Solution. Leave the EU ASAP. Re GKN the Mail was embarrassing. Bummer fed lots of misinformation. Successful!!!! | brexitplus
19/4/2018 20:12 | brexitplus. Re: The Daily Mail.... there was a long commentary piece in The Times Business News today on the De La Rue fiasco over the passport contract. It pointed out that the CEO rushed onto the radio on the first day breathing fire and thunder about the unpatriotic decision before going on to say he would take legal action over the contract procedure. The piece said that this enabled a bunch of politicians and unions to jump on to his side, together with The Daily Mail (and I quote) "fresh from its successful campaign" with regard top GKN. One day The Daily Mail will win..... | grahamburn
19/4/2018 19:26 | With the deletion of GKN, MRO will get promoted into the FTSE100 from start of trading next Tuesday (24th April). Expect a big volume uncrossing in the closing auction on Monday as index funds adjust their holdings. | typo56
19/4/2018 18:37 | Melrose WON. Daily Mail LOST. No calculations needed. | brexitplus
19/4/2018 18:08 | Meanwhile, no idea what questions you're trying to answer there...can we have one of your 'calculations' please? | gettingrichslow
19/4/2018 17:48 | Bukko - I always like to end the day with a smile - you did it for me today - thanks:-) | losos |
