I've seen pubs you people wouldn't believe

Three fiery plates of chili on a tray
I've seen the pint glasses gleaming over the bartender's shoulder
All these memories will be lost in time
Like tears in beer
Time to buy

cathian - of course it is! well said! Also, later would have been too late, they go into a close period starting 2 months prior to 2017 prelim announcement diaried for 30/11/17.

Its got a dive...but is it a value trap.

Most PIs are in tech, and would not touch this sector with barge pole.

BTW, just a few yesterday......will buy more, but need to see a bottom.

Does not mean the share price will not keep going down.

It is about the divi, imo.

The director may think it can not go any lower, but have a look at the link. Down on the left hand side "Performance" section.
It has been going down on every metric, from 5 years to 1 week.

Why is this going to change.

The sector is bombed.

Isn't the recent purchase by the Chief Executive of 47,121 shares at 105.52p a positive sign. Isn't it a kind of "speaking up"?

am guessing that that 'speaking up' will occur on 10/10/17 - and not before.

Tim's got a bee in his bonnet alright, if only the sleeping board of MARS could speak up.

Mars mispriced or missing information. Seems to be fear of the unknown with Marstons.

wetherspoons up 9% as a consequence - perhaps teh pub sector gloom is overdone?

"Mr wetherspoons" on bloomberg now, says that the comsumer is "sailing along", and no real worries about consumer spending right now.
He pointed out that morrisons, wagamama, and spoons have posted reasonable nos very recently, and that issues (like for Greeene King) might be company specific.
The last 6 weeks nos have been strong apparently, but does not want people to necessarily extrapolate that strength....

They own the Pitcher & Pianno in Richmond Surrey,
that may be targeted at the young affluent!.

Time and cash PugUgly, time and cash. Most Marstons pubs can serve a decent carvery. It's a good value lunch if the Mrs can't be bothered to cook on a Sunday anymore. Lady Gnome hates doing Sunday roasts.

Us elderly with a triple lock pension are the only ones with cash to spend and if you have more than the IHT zero band we spend it now rather than give 40% to HMRC- Looks as though MARS may be targeting the new affluent !!

Spacecake "Looking at the pictures of the pub, it reminds me of a home for the elderly - maybe, that the new target market !"

I resemble that remark!
