No, it seems the rates relief is at company level so 110000 is the max no matter how many pubs in the chain?

MRF - doubt very much that alcoholic will be saving anything on a pint.
More likely paying a lot more from next April.
Anyone being paid NLW will cost the company about 11.4% more from then
the gross increase + Ers NI
Rates is an interesting one does each pub get its own relief? , which we know is being slashed from
75% to 40% adding up to 38500 per pub rates bills

think business rate relief is capped at 110000 per company and that's all MARS will save?

So KY Boy, yet again, spends months trying to talk a share down. He started at 25p and eventually bought at 41p after realising that he had made an awful mistake. This is the same KY Boy that had previously traded the share in excess of 100p

To a big cheer, Reeves pledges cut to duty on draft alcohol

Reeves now announces she will be cutting duty on draft alcohol - to loud cheers from MPs.

"Which means a penny off the pints at the pubs," the chancellor says.

Alcohol duty rates on non-draught products will increase in line with RPI from February next year.

The budget is the next meaningful event for Marstons.

Lots of speculation about it , including from the DM today

"The Low Pay Commission, which advises the Government on the level of the 'living wage', has previously projected that the minimum could rise by 3.9 per cent next April – double the rate of inflation – which would take it from £11.44 an hour to £11.89.

But government sources indicated the final figure will be higher as the quango will now be using a new mandate handed to it by Ms Reeves in the summer, which will require it to take greater account of the cost of living.

The move comes on top of plans to raise employers' NI by between one and two per cent in a £20 billion raid on business."

Labour cost was 24.4% (£213.1m) of sales in the year to Sep 23....

gen z have no cash.
Marston going up to the next generation.
Working couples with cash to spare,
Mum cant be bothered to cook anymore.
The future is bright after the shakeout of struggling pubs.
There were always too many.

I see a future where you will be lucky to book a table.

Agree, this is not an investment, when was the last time you went to a pub, I can’t stand the places, poor food, over priced and drinks prices a rip off, no wonder gen Z have set the cultural changes which are significant. The debt mountain is ridiculous
Markets are struggling for direction in the US, here and in Europe, no equities are value, wait to see first Labours Autumn statement 30 Oct, then outcome of US Elections, Cash, Gold & Bitcoin

NY Boy - we don't really need statistical research and extrapolations to come to those conclusions.
Just count the number of pubs that have been closing year over year.
A look around most towns would show boarded up pubs , that change started with the smoking ban
and has increased with more expensive drinks and higher staff costs.

Trend change for some time, Mars is not an investment, loaded with huge debts, a highly questionable portfolio NAV They had their chance rejecting a over over 100p, delusional management, the result is a collapsed share price with less drinking alcohol and Labour’s Autumn will see higher increases in Alcohol taxes. These are facts and why if you go against the trend, you will lose a lot of your shirt.

As part of Mintel’s research into the lifestyles of Gen Z in Britain, our findings indicate that 36% of young adults aged 18-25 most commonly socialise by going to bars and pubs with their friends. In 2023, going to restaurants is one of the most popular choices for socialising, while online gaming, visiting cafes, and going to the cinema have gained comparable popularity to going out for a drink.

We can also see how Gen Z is rejecting alcohol more significantly than other generations by comparing between generational British lifestyles. A distinct pattern emerges when examining age groups, revealing that British consumers aged 20-24 are almost half as likely to prioritise spending on alcoholic drinks for the home than consumers aged over 75. This suggests that a significant number of Gen Z are shifting their focus away from drinking alcohol, both inside and outside the home, and opting instead for sober socialising.
