So 102,000 more people now earning a wage within the last three months = more money to spend in shops, just a matter of time.

It shows the UK economy is doing much better than some think, else unemployment would be going UP not DOWN!

That Credir Suisse downgrade to 'underperform' mentioned here in today's London Ev Standard market report...

Tech giants and worries over M&S food drives stocks down


"...Marks & Spencer lost 6.8p at 301p after Credit Suisse said it saw little signs of turnaround under chief executive Steve Rowe. The broker was worried about its food halls, once considered some of the best in the business.

Analyst Pradeep Pratti said: “M&S is well into the second year of its latest transformation plan and while there was progress, we think food and M&S.com are falling further behind the market.

“We think shares should trade at a 15% discount to UK retail sector given the structural issues.” Shares fell 5.3p at 302.5p.

When they re arrange deck chairs at the top you know they have run out of ideas...just buying time...in the meantime keep the lifestyle going....performance or non performer...

currency movement correlation with shares is a bit a myth & a red herring...

If you look at the charts above you will see MKS is just following UKX as are the other shares.

.... Marks & Spencer has appointed former Tesco marketer Sharry Cramond as marketing director, food and hospitality, as the retailer responds to falling sales across the board. Cramond joins from Florida-based Southeastern Grocers, where she has been chief marketing officer since May 2015. She had two stints at Tesco: from 1998 to 2009, and 2013 to 2015, when she was group marketing strategy and brand director, then proposition and brand marketing director. At the same time, Nathan Ansell will remain marketing director, but see his remit change from customer and loyalty to clothing and home. Meanwhile Rob Weston, currently global brand and marketing director, will become marketing director, brand and customer. All three will report to Patrick Bousquet-Chavanne, executive director, customer, marketing and digital.

I used to like WHSmith a lot when I was a kid. One of the best places to get your mags and books and a few other things, but now you have the likes of Amazon and other retailers suppying what Smiths do but cheaper, Smiths has some serious competition.

There is definitely something lacking in Smiths, which it had when I was growing up as a child. Not sure how that would impact M&S though, after all, they don't really sell anything that M&S does??
