Marks and Spencer is a major employer in Ireland, with more than 4,000 staff.

In a letter to Brexit minister Lord Frost, Mr Norman said the current EU customs arrangements were "totally unsuited and were never designed for a modern fresh food supply chain between closely intertwined trading partners".

'Box-ticking'

"There is no other outcome for consumers in Northern Ireland in the end other than higher prices, given the inflationary pressures being put on to retailers by the regulatory regime," Mr Norman wrote.

"Being able to keep the show on the road, let alone growing, is going to be very challenging," he added.

MARKS warns over BREXIT and is having to cut products in Northern Ireland

Reality may kick in after todays bounce which is in part due to bounce in footsie, bounce due to NEXT snd bounce due to retail sales in general.

The Government is expected to give Brussels an ultimatum on the Northern Ireland protocol today, as the chairman of Marks & Spencer warned it would lead to "gaps on the shelves" if left unresolved. Brandon Lewis, the Northern Ireland Secretary, will give a statement to Parliament this lunchtime in which he is expected to threaten to tear up post-Brexit trading arrangements if the EU doesn't show more flexibility. Lord Frost will also publish a "command paper" setting out the UK's stance. It comes as Archie Norman warned the situation would become "incendiary", particularly towards Christmas, saying "there will be gaps on the shelves... because it's simply not worth the risk of trying to get it through." The retail boss has written to the Government about the pressures the "byzantine and pointless and pettifogging" enforcement of the protocol is causing, as he revealed M&S was already having to "delist" Christmas stock. He told Radio 4's Today programme:  "I can't think of a more visible demonstration of how you are no longer a full part of the UK than you can't get your favourite Christmas products, can't buy M&S chicken, free range eggs."He warned that Northern Ireland was on course to face the same level of restrictions as the Republic of Ireland, adding: "You would not think butter would be threatening to the EU - it's the same butter that has been going there.... It could easily test 100 again at this rate. With the absence of any good news I think that's where it's heading. It may bounce off 130 but eventually will break through and find 100 . Or perhaps even lower and if they issue new paper it may never come back to where I entered circa 165.

MARKS could be a arget but not as tasty as Sainsburys or even Morrision. All the top supermarkets are cash generaive and as ingerest rates arent going anywhere its a good place to invest for a provate equity or pension fund.

FTSE Shares showing weakness of late and technical bounses are sold into but the FTSE above 7k...FTSE is a lagging indicator...due one of those big whoosh down on the FTSE...normally the share prices weaken first then FTSE catches up to the downside...

Yes it should really be trading at well over £2.50 so at £1.25 you could make 100% over 12 months.

6:47am'Critical' workers can be exempt from self-isolationCritical workers will be able to avoid self-isolation if they come near someone with Covid in a bid to keep trains running and avoid food shortages. On Monday, Boris Johnson expanded the list of sectors whose employees could be exempt from the normal rules as he sought to ease the impact of the "pingdemic".Train drivers, care home staff, medicine manufactures, border security guards, soldiers and people who work in food, water and electricity supply are among those who could benefit....
