MARKS shares now falling back.

B&M now worth more than Sainburys and twice the market cap of MARKS:

B&M was a privately held company and they tend to be well run and one of the reasons to list was to expand their network of stores.

Dan I agree the rise has come to fast its due a pull-back and you are also correct with the vaccine, its now being accepted it will be Spring to bring some improvement.

In the meanwhile job losses continue the latest Young's brewery:

"Youngs boss reveals pub chain has now been forced to slash 1000 jobs
Young's boss has blasted the 'absolutely brutal' impact of the second national lockdown, revealing it has now been forced to slash one fifth of its 5,000 staff.

Patrick Dardis saw his pub chain swing into to a £21.8million half-year loss yesterday, compared to a £24.3million profit a year ago, after suffering under lockdown and curfew restrictions."

Job losses before Christmas is grim for retailers and anyone losing their jobs will cut down Christmas spend and it will un-nerve other people at risk of losing their jobs.

Fear is infectious it tends to spread.

All IMHOJust went to M&S West Quay (Southampton) food hall had a few (more then I expected) customers. However an amount of perishable food was marked down due to near expiry date.I have sold around 1/2 of my holding in these shares as I think that they have risen too fast.I foresee a poor Christmas period. I foresee logistical challenges with vaccine. Thus I think this will take longer to sort then we think. Personally (and just my opinion) I think we will see 1 pound a share again on these.Daniel

robot,

Repetitive behaviour disorder is the symptoms of a disturbed personality which he evidently has.

The people that cause this disruption don't always realise like you have eloquently said that nothing completely disappears, even when posts are removed or deleted they remain on the server.

Your properly wired brain realizes this but backward wired so called investors don't have the mental capacity to act as responsible and intelligent people like you or I am .

Qantas and Debsdowner , Good morning to you .

The virus is really taking hold now .

The more people come into contact with other people the better the chance they will pick up the virus .

And spread it to others .

The health service will not be able to treat everyone with the virus and some that are to far gone be allowed to die.

Going to hammer down here today .

look at page 4 of humptys posts .

All posts will be on ADVFN SERVER.

Smart Move..

Marks and Spencer completes two pension buy-in transactions worth £750m

Marks and Spencer has completed two pensions buy-in transactions worth approximately £750 million for its defined benefit (DB) pension scheme.

The move, which follows two previous buy-in transactions completed in 2018 and 2019, means that 80% of the scheme’s pensioner liabilities are now insured. The buy-in policies are provided by Aviva and Phoenix Life, while Marks and Spencer was advised by Hymans Robertson and LCP.

Following the latest transactions, Aviva will insure the DB pension liabilities of a further 2,293 pensioner members, effectively removing the investment and longevity risk from the scheme. Members will not see any change in the amount they are paid or the way in which they receive their benefits.

The retailer’s move to secure its DB pension reduces the risk that it will be required to contribute additional cash to the scheme in the future, while securing members’ benefits and managing any risk to shareholders.

mrolan,

Yes just noticed the issue of the bonds and it flies in the face of the company claims its in a good cash position.

They wouldn't be raising money at higher interest rates if they were confident about their finances going forward.

We are in the crucial Christmas period now and a bad Christmas will place MARKS in a bad position, bear in mind many have already done their Christmas shop.

MARKS like many retailers may be buying too much stock and then left with it.

Breaking news shocking rise in infections the last 24 hours:

Patients on ventilator 1,268

There will be a GOV press conference at 5.pm today.

The infection rate almost a 50% rise in just 24 hours it will be interesting to hear what the explanation for this rise it cannot be just solely due to more tests.
