I went to Macau, 5 odd years ago. I remember thinking it was an absolute dump. Not that it stops punters streaming across the border to the tacky casinos. I see the investment case.

Must admit this passed me by:

Macau strongly resurgent economy:

Bloomberg 1st. August

"A rebound in Macau’s casino revenue accelerated in July as spending by high-rollers added momentum to a year-long recovery despite China’s efforts to curb capital outflows.

Gross gaming receipts rose for a 12th straight month, increasing 29 percent to 23 billion patacas ($2.9 billion), according to data released by Macau’s Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau on Tuesday. That topped the median estimate for a 26 percent increase in a Bloomberg survey of nine analysts, and is the biggest gain since February 2014."

There will be ups and downs.

But 95p last summer to 155p now (having reached 180p) is really great. That's 70% ++ in a year. fantastic!

It depends on your time horizon.

For me , the party hasn't even got going yet. I perceive a coming boom in Macau in tourism with the enormous pulling power of the new mega-resorts, a vastly increasingly mobile Chines population keen to travel and the much-vaunted road bridge linking HK to Macau.

I remain as keen as anything on this one and feel it has a LOT MORE to run.

But a specialist Macau property fund is not everybody's cup of tea and the specialisation may prevent many people from taking a further look. For me, it is a connoisseur's stock with limited trading for anyone keenly following the fortunes of Macau which has carved a unique niche for itself.

Just read MPO's latest updates, a definite uptick in property. More will follow.

Goof Luck.

Very encouraging update.

All looks good and positive.

The pick-up in gaming revenues in Macau is astonishingly buoyant.

A VERY IMPORTANT ARTICLE in yesterday's FT on page 16.

The half-page article on the greatly resurgent fortunes of Macau is headed:

"MACAU CASINOS WINNING AGAIN AS GAMBLERS RETURN

- Operators report recovery amid luxury sector rebound following ant-graft campaign."

The full FT article is important reading and points to a much improving Macau economy on the back of increasing numbers of mainland Chinese visitors.

When the Macau economy starts speeding up that closely correlates to an improving scenario for real estate demand and prices.

Wow.

Things hotting up in Hong Kong.
Henderson Land just paid US$3billion for a 31,000sq ft 5-storey old car park in Central Hong Kong.

This "latest indicator of the frenzied state of the territory's property market" (FT 18/5/17 Page 1) will in my view eventually ripple out to Macau and will further support and spur on Macau property values.

Positive news.

MACAU IS BOUNCING BACK

See new Bloomberg report about FORECAST-TOPPING PROFIT at Wynn Macau. And listen to the interview about surging casino activity and increasing visitors to Macau.

Further tangible, concrete evidence that Macau is on the up. This will buoy and feed through to property valuations and property demand.

Enormous growth figures recorded for Macau in March. Excellent news for MPO.

The new mega resorts in Cotai are now really starting to bring in swathes of visitors. The completion of the HK-Macau road bridge due 2018 will add rocket fuel to the mix.

Onwards and upwards for Macau and MPO.

MoneyWeek dated 10th March, quoting Nick Greenwood (Miton):

"Even though locally listed Macanese casino stocks have been moving sharply higher, MPO remains overlooked. It's stated NAV is 245p, yet the shares trade at a mere 161p. The problem isn't a concern about the future direction of this trust's properties, but that MPO has a total market cap of just £100m, which means that few in the UK market are able to buy it. MPO has begun attempting to realise the value of its assets. Should it sell its holdings for 245p and return the proceeds to shareholders over the next two years, that would generate a 65% uplift in the share price without any movement in the underlying value of its portfolio".

I can think of at least 6 flaws in the above paragraph, but the market open beckon.

The NAV per share is 245p and the shares are trading a long way below that. The recent rise is recognising this massive discount to NAV and narrowing the gap.

Thanks for that. Do you use DMA on a normal share dealing account, or for CFDs?

@madmix - think they charge me 10 pips, min £10, but yes - haven't noticed a "per fill" which could be very annoying if filled by a one-share bot!

SpectoAcc,

(Sorry, off-topic)

You mentioned elsewhere that you use IG for retail DMA. I currently use iDealing, who charge £9.90 + £1.70 "per fill". This is fine unless your order is filled in lots of small AT trades, where the costs can add up.

My understanding is that IG only charge a flat £5/£8 per deal, with no "per fill" charge. Is this correct?
