It will be interesting to see how the Greenshill and Archegos positions unwind and which banks ultimately have the debt, I suspect all will have a portion as with insurance.

The financial press is writing all about the losses suffered by the banks that didn’t dump their Archegos positions fast enough, and explaining parallels with the 1998 collapse of Long-Term-Capital-Management, but few folk are wondering how a 40% collapse in the stock price damages that firm’s long-term prospects.

FWIW I reduced my position in Aviva as I think equity release will be the next PPI.

M&Gs name keeps featuring on commerical property retail loans (some mezz pieces too which will be 100 percent write offs) Not sure it it's balance sheet or third party funds - either way doesn't point to great credit skills

"I understand a single large UK pension fund, M&G holds the entire £370 mm Lagoon Park financing, arranged by Greensill and marketed by Morgan Stanley, of the GFC Alliance’s purchase of the Lochaber Aluminium Smelter and Hydro Power station. Initially it only bought 50% of the deal, but then acquired the rest when GAM sold its portion.

The investment management team at M&G will not be unconcerned about the deal. But not because Gupta will default – but because the deal is guaranteed by the Scottish Government. They will be worried about the credit outlook for Scottish debt rated Aa3 as part of the UK if the SNP succeeds in a second independence referendum."

The SNP have committed 25% of their borrowing facility to this ,it goes on to say.

Sorry, don't understand why Karv1 is being immature?

He clearly states his reasoning for the shareprice to rise and clearly has confidence in M & G shares.

If you are invested here, then surely that is what we all have.....confidence in the company!

Rio pays 72% out from total profits After everything taken out the profits are around 6.9 billion 10% profits ratio On record commodities prices, odds of them going up another 50% are extremely low.

I would be happy with 225 and 250 this would be amazing and these targets could be reached fairly quickly depending on the general market directions. If the next set of results have improved then this could take off and 300+ could be possible. with my understanding, this stock is a win /win on many fronts, there no guarantees but what other stocks have these dividends/ profits and a possible share price growth of 50% while being in A semi-safe stock.

MNG really got some superb fundamentals, still very under valued and IMO can see a steady climb over the next 12 months to around 350p share price I currently hold in my portfolio fund.

I've reposted "sudcotes" recent query here from a redundant thread:

"Investor L Plates firmly attached here and asking please,
if the 12.23p dividend from M&G, paying on the 28th April,, which was announced as a 2nd interim divi, means, as my internet search indicates, that a final dividend will be announced (perhaps 3p ? ) at the AGM in May. The company end of year 2020 report definitely states that the 12.23 is a 2nd interim and not a final dividend.. Thoughts please/"

The answer is that no further dividend after the 12.23p due 28 April will be paid for 2020. The "second interim" wording is a device to avoid requiring formal shareholder approval because interims do not need it, so the payment can be made earlier by a board decision without waiting for the AGM. But in fact it is, in effect, the final for that year.

The next dividend after this is the interim for 21 payable on 29 September, the figure to be announced with the interim results in due course.

I'm a relatively new holder myself BTW.

Hyden - the one I remember was not bought for 720 it had only been back on the market a while and was not as long ago as 2005....

Wiki tells me it was this one...

"On 18 June 2012 Brit announced the sale of its subsidiary Brit Insurance Limited (BIL) to RiverStone Group.[5] The company was subject to an initial public offering in March 2014.[6]

The company was acquired by Fairfax Financial in May 2015.[7]

It was Britannic Assurance and it was bought by Resolution Life Ltd in 2005. I had shares at £1.23 and sold for £7.20 so I was very happy with that. Resolution was then taken over by its arch Rival in the closed book market - Hugh Osmond's Pearl Group. The deal nearly broke Hugh and Pearl was ultimately transformed into the current PHNX. I opted to take bonds in PGL (offered as an alternative to cash) to avoid paying too much CGT and for a time I was worried that I might lose the lot. Thankfully it came good in the end and I was able to sell the bonds in tranches to limit my CGT exposure. Resolution later re-surfaced and bought Friends Provident and part of AXA UK and both were ultimately sold to Aviva. I didn't make as much money out of that one but Clive Cowdery did very well with his 10% profit share.

I had shares a few years ago in Britanic Insurance... (or was it Britania ?) either way the mooted yield was 14% and when they had their maiden results and dividend I found they were paying out as advertised so I should have bought more. Around the same time PE came and snapped them up , at a premium , but I would rather have had years of dividends...

"A PE buyer could snap up M&G, which has a £5.2bn market value, and chop off parts of the business, such as Heritage, to finance a buyout.

"Foley says M&G is 'happy with its current structure.' But “if options come along that are attractive” then M&G would examine whether they provided value to shareholders."
