Now we know why the share price rose so much Friday. Nothing to do with Jupiter. I also think bid needs to be a nice round 300p.

It seems that there is fire in that smoke, despite people putting rivers of water on it!

Agree with fenner66 that M&G’s dividends is such great value that even 50% premium is not good enough.

It'll end up at a circa 50% premium. As I guesstimated on Thursday, this would yield us a circa 300p take out bid (+/- 20p). Obviously, if we get competing bids from other interested parties then it could be well north of that estimate. spud

30% premium just over 3 years dividends and then the problem of finding somewhere else to earn that return and remain somewhat diversified - just not enough.

And the rest 1jat. They’ve got 16b sh annuities, another 9 in wp fund and 7 in p fund with massive surplus. Estate was valued at 9.7 at h1 22.

This could get very interesting when another large asset manager works out the cheapness here and asset mgr synergies

Rothesay/PIC and Phoenix will be salivating at the thought of a willing (forced?) seller of £30bn of annuities and the WP fund with £6bn surplus.

Now we need a counter bid from Schroeder and a big US fund manager to join the party. Game on!

If it were a Yankee buyer casting its beady eye over MNG, wouldn't it have been a bit stronger in US time yesterday?

Spud: No smoke and all that.

In the case of bid rumours, that old saying is definitely untrue. I know from very lengthy experience that almost all come to nothing.

A company that can "afford" such a high dividend and buybacks has to be a target.
After all its a target for income investors so why not a larger investor - institution or competitor?

Brittania some years ago was paying a too good to be true dividend ... except it wasn't and it did not last
long before someone bought it.

I thought last year this might be a target - but I guess rising interest rates and uncertainty put that on hold.
If they think that interest rates are now more predictable , perhaps a bid is back in the frame?

Then again, I'd be happy for this to remain listed and collect the huge dividends each year ... don't want everything being taken over by the USA and Chinese

All companies routinely run the ruler over their competitors..and a few of these result in informal soundings and fewer progress…to firmer discussions at which point the market has to be informed.
Q is do we think MNG wants to be bought? With the new CEO in place probably not and it does make money and is well capitalised so there is no fire sale about to happen.
Does it have the firepower to take on others? The share buy back suggests they do for smaller deals, but would the shareholders agree to a larger deal or see it as value destructive for MNG?

My view is that MNG could be party to mergers where they are all share deals with low bid premium, this is to accelerate change / build scale and a more effective business.

Yeah agree that this is more than a rumour based on the share price action since 10am last Friday.

I may risk an average up buy at this rate!!

Good luck all 👍🏻

Rumours still circulating then, you would think there must be something or the other going on behind the scenes for it to be mentioned in the main press.
