Released today and not very pretty...

Since 1 July 2008, the Group has continued to perform in line with management's
expectations against a continued backdrop of an
extremely challenging housing market.

Turnover for the ten months ended 31 October 2008 compared with the same period in 2007
was as follows:

* Group turnover for the period was down by 22.4%
* Surveying turnover was down by 6.4%
* Estate Agency and Financial Services turnover was down by 33.3%

I think they will have to do an IMS update this week or will have breached the regulations and I guess could be suspended. It has to be next Monday at the absolute latest but the longer the delay you just feel they are trying to find something positive to balance what must be negative figures and outlook.

I think they have to do an IMS under the new regulations so will need to be one shortly.....you can only hold off so long hoping things pick up enough !! It is sadly getting worse though.

last years statement was on the 13th working day in oct, we're now on the 16th working day this oct. assuming there is to be a statement, it is later than last year. guessing they're spending a lot of time working on the wording......

Does anyone know when there is an interim management statement due. There should be one during October I think.

Yes, opened it with Spreadex at 82.9, and the 5p drop has already gone through the spread and put me slightly into profit. Shame I couldn't do it yesterday as I could have had another couple of points profit, but nevermind.

Thanks, I'll go and take a look at the DOWN thread now.

domwilliams - did you open a short this morning?

With IG and Cantor offering only one-day-at-a-time bets on this one, I left it alone lately. Been downbetting instead on the likes of HRCO (exposure to property falls in India -- as is UCP, though that too is difficult to trade), and Ablon (ABL) exposed to east europe property declines and in a very long downtrend. Charts for each displayed on DOWN thread header with LSL.

LSL still strikes me as the one most at risk of dramatic collapse sometime whenever.

Yes, this looks to my relatively untrained eye to be shorts closing out in number (booking at least some profit from recent highs), coupled with spreadbet expiry date. It was fascinating to see it move up so quickly this afternoon, and was reminiscent of the recent short squeeze on MNGS IMO.

I couldn't get work approval to open a position this afternoon before the close, so will be following the price in the morning and opening a small short.

There's little danger of this one being taken out either with net debt of £62m at y/e on top of the market cap of £88m.

Today is expiry day for quarterly shorts. Maybe some pre-existing short contracts are ending but cannot this time be rolled?

From the rightmove results today:

'In our view, the remainder of 2008 will see estate agents leaving the industry
at higher rates than in the first six months of the year as conditions continue
to toughen. Indeed, given the current low level of transactions in the market,
it is probable that 2009 will also see a further decrease in the number of
estate agents trading.'

Savills are going to cut branches and staff too. Has anyone heard about any closures within Reeds Rains or Your Move ?
