Excellent performance in a horrible environment. 14% short position with at least 60% of the shares in very stable hands

Man the pumps Monday now then. What with an eye on developments here, the gold space getting interesting also, and the continuing saga at Carillion ,the middle of July is either going to turn out very profitably or involve cancelling the caravan park holiday in Skeggy!! Hope i remembered to dry and air out the tent from last Summer, might need it after next week.

Lmi shares also might have spiked because the SA government has suspended the newly introduced mining charter regarding BEE ownership. The first intra-day spike correlates with AAL's spike, but the second spike into the close is the mystery one.

RB10 appears you are correct, the date has been bought forward to the 17th July, pasted from the official LONMIN web site as I had only had a look earlier in the week when it said 28th July 2017. Hope it is not bad news as it has been very quite on the BB this week.

LSE (London South East) financial calendar is still saying Lonmin Q3 2017 report due 28/7 . Does anyone know whether LMI spiked because of the platinum price jump on the poor US economic data that came out Friday, or is it because Lonmin brought forward the Q3 announcement date?

Not sure of timings anymore.I believed Q3 production 2017 was due out 28/7 and this is reported still on one Lonmin website. Now i look at another Lonmin website and that says Q3 production report now due out 17/7 ie this Monday coming.V odd.

Thanks EDF... just like you say I do think that is what is happening, but also like you say nothing is guaranteed in this game.

Hi Kulv,
The worm takes time to turn on severe bear attacks like this, look for the subtle clues like the new support at 65 the lack of large daily falls and the intermittent raid on the offer side of the book once left to build up.
The typical short closing IP is to buy and then let the book slip back down ;- rinse and repeat .
Remember the shorts want to close at a lowest price possible and will not initially chase the book.

That is what we see here, eventually the sellers run dry at that level and the short closing has to move up a few pence and again repeat process..
It is a long painful process that usually eventually brings a snap spike up .

Obviously no guarantee is offered in this game as a huge seller could appear at anytime, but the worm is slowly turning.
I suspect a fare % of shorts will not want to hold for the update on July 27, why would they with such huge profits already in the bag.
Is it not the case that logic says they will take something off the table?
The late to the party retail shorters are now exposed as the big boys start to close some exposure.
Hence a potential trading opportunity exists to the upside.
