The resulting tax revenues across the wider economy would both replace the lost revenue from capital gains tax, and over time, more than fill Ms Reeves's imaginary fiscal black hole.Imagine that, abolishing just one tax could have so much impact that it would give the economy a £25bn boost – what's holding the Chancellor back? Surely not blind prejudice and an out-of-date belief that capital gains tax enables the use of the tax system as a redistribution tool. Mr Young claims capital gains tax is the worst tax on working people because it holds down people's wages through its effect on reducing productivity. He points out that annual average growth in UK GDP per hour worked has been just 0.5pc per year since 2008, while it has been three times higher in the US....more...Daily Telegraph

When I bought my Lloyds shares I was not informed of the possibility of financial loss on them, as a result of future claims from an unexpected FCA investigation into motor finance, which is clearly not a loss from the normal risk of investing.

So can I use a claims company to pursue the FCA for compensation?

Estimates of the impact are lower than the loss of market cap since announcement.
Market cap is down over £3bn or about 8% since Friday.

MOTOR FINANCE UPDATE

Lloyds Banking Group plc (the Group) notes the recent Court of Appeal decisions on Wrench, Johnson and Hopcraft relating to motor commission arrangements. The Group also notes the intention of the lenders to appeal the decisions to the UK Supreme Court.

The Court of Appeal has determined that motor dealers acting as credit brokers owe certain duties to disclose to their customers commission payable to them by lenders, and that lenders will be liable for dealers' non-disclosures. This sets a higher bar for the disclosure of and consent to the existence, nature, and quantum of any commission paid than had been understood to be required or applied across the motor finance industry prior to the decision. Our understanding of compliant disclosure was built on FCA / regulatory guidance and previous legal authorities. These decisions relate to commission disclosure and consent obligations which go beyond the scope of the current FCA motor commissions review.

The Group is assessing the potential impact of the decisions, as well as any broader implications, pending the outcome of the appeal applications. The Group will update the market, if and as appropriate.

There's been a right old fuss in the last day or so because Starmer was asked to say what he meant by "working people", when they've said no working people will be taxed more. It was followed up very persistently by Laura Kuenssberg this morning.

Couldn't get an answer to whether "working people" included owners of small businesses, for whom the increased NI contributions will drop their profits and therefore their salary taken from the business. Plus less profit left to invest in the business.

I'm quite pleased because I've been boring mates in the pub by going on about the phrase and what it actually means - possibly some sort of populist throwback to class, which would of course not tie in with Labour's fair society claims.

Turns out its a hypocritical, given they want to get growth back in the economy.
