Britain pincered over BREXIT!........

"France and Germany are trying to strong-arm Britain into drastically altering post-Brexit rules for EU workers and students in return for a new migration agreement to cut the number of Channel crossings".

But, will lead to migrant pool sharing! Rwanda would've made the treacherous crossings pointless and one up on any hitherto EU plan. Reform in their quest to snuff out illegals, in actuality assisted them by stealing Conservative votes "Cut their noses to spite their faces"! Traffickers win!

scruff1,
if you read them all it is no wonder you believe all the lies spouted by the billionaire owners of the right wing papers . They are about 75% of the media you clown and have indoctrinated you . If 75% of media were LEFT wing or lib dems , obviously you might well not be a fanatical right winger . Think about that sport :)

Rejecting 30% pay rise???...can easily spill over to other sectors leading to inflation rise mark2...

Striking BOEING workers have rejected an increased final offer of a 30% pay rise deal! Starmer and Reeves caving in to the Junior Doctors demands has set a dangerous precedent here!

A reminder of the Barclays application for judicial review reported back in July

"Barclays’ attempt to quash key car finance ‘mis-selling’ ruling is wrong, says watchdog

Ombudsman warns bank is arguing ‘academic points’ in applying for judicial review

Michael Bow

08 July 2024 2:25pm

Britain’s financial complaints watchdog is battling Barclays’ bid to quash a key ruling at the heart of the motor finance “mis-selling” scandal.

The Financial Ombudsman Service, which rules on customer complaints, is trying to block Barclays’ application for a judicial review of its findings.

The dispute revolves around a January decision from the ombudsman, which found that the bank’s car loan division had unfairly paid commission to a credit broker.

Its ruling revolved around the treatment of a single customer, known as Miss L, who was not made aware that her loan agreement with Barclays involved £1,600 in commission.

Findings of the case sent shockwaves around the industry, as the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) launched a wholesale review into whether customers had been unfairly treated when securing loans from second-hand car dealerships.

This led to other lenders, such as Lloyds Bank and Close Brothers, taking a financial hit.

However, Barclays has sought to push back against the ombudsman by mounting a legal challenge.

This has paved the wave for a bitter High Court dispute, as the ombudsman has accused the bank of arguing “academic points”.

In its court filing, it said: “The claimant (Barclays) was given full opportunity to provide evidence that the car was not sold by the car dealer for a profit, but did not do so.”

If Barclays succeeds in its application for judicial review, the ruling could potentially throw a spanner in FCA’s investigation.

The regulator has paused any further complaints until September while it gathers more information and awaits the outcome of the judicial review.

In its original court application filed in early April, Barclays said the court should quash the ombudsman’s decision. This is on the basis that there was a “real divergence” between the agency’s stance on complaints and those of the courts, where the ombudsman has lost a succession of cases.

A Barclays spokesman said: “We do not agree with the Financial Ombudsman Service’s decision in this case and are therefore challenging it.

“This challenge relates to a single, specific case and separately we continue to support the Financial Conduct Authority’s review into historic motor financing arrangements.

“Due to the ongoing nature of this case, we cannot share anything further at this time.”

The ombudsman and the FCA were contacted for comment."

Lets hope Barclays application is successful and even if it doesn't negate the investigation that it limits it's scope in some way.

Im tired of all of it. I like to listen to people arguing/debating/discussing and both or more sides giving it large. Radio 4 is all liberal lefty types all agreeing with all things woke and liberal. Talk radio is the opposite. Either way you know whats coming before it does. Papers are the same. DT simply undermines the left as though its their raison detre. Guardian ditto the right. Predictable and bloody boring.

Battle For Ugledar: Ukrainian Elite Forces Try To Escape

Support SouthFront

The Russian army advances in Ugledar and around the city.

In the afternoon of September 23, Russian forces took the full control of the territory of the Southern Donbass 3rd mine located west of Vodyanoe. The Armed Forces of Ukraine attempted to resist on the outskirts of the large industrial facility but they were suppressed by Russian troops. As a result of the victory, the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation forced Ukrainian units to retreat to the west and straightened the northern flank of the ongoing offensive around Ugledar.

The fortress of Ugledar is close to fall. As a result of successful attacks, Russian troops expanded their zone of control in the fields west of the city and approached the last road to Ugledar that leads to Bogoyavlenka. As a result the last road used for communications with the Ukrainian garrison in the city came under heavy fire control. According to preliminary reports, it was already cut off on the ground.

At the same time, Russian forces advanced on the streets of Ugledar. After heavy artillery shelling and airstrikes on Ukrainian strongholds in the city, Russian forces launched assault from the eastern district called dachas. They crossed the road, entered the eastern residential quarter and reportedly gained a foothold in the highrise apartment buildings there.

According to local reports, Ukrainian forces attempt to escape from the cauldron by small groups. There were reports, that the elite 72nd Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine that was defending the fortress with servicemen of the National Guard of Ukraine was withdrawn from Ugledar last night; but Ukrainian military sources did not confirm the reports and lamented the elite unit abandoned by the Ukrainian military command. Anyway, it is too late to safely escape from Ugledar. The Ukrainian garrison will be grinded or it will suffer heavy losses trying to run away under Russian fire in the fields.

Thirded !

Seems BBC 4 have a different view of the world than Talk.
They described Starmer as inspirational. Labour has done more in 11 weeks than the Tories did in 11 years. Business is now confident of the future. Workers will have the rights and the wages they deserve. People who work hard can be certain they will be rewarded.
There you go Tricky. Your hard earned is safe. You will be rewarded. If they pull that off the Tories are history - off to damnation to repent

I believe that any compensation awarded would be split between the lenders and the car dealerships. Can you imagine any second hand car dealers handling money back.

The FCA has confirmed that it is extending its investigation into motor finance by another 8 months, after a brief consultation over plans to delay the probe.

The regulator is looking into whether consumers had been charged inflated prices for car loans, as a result of open commission arrangements, between 2007 and 2021.

A decision on how to handle the matter - including whether there would be a compensation scheme - was originally due this week. But the FCA said in July it wanted to push that decision to May 2025, after firms took longer than expected to submit data to the regulator. That new date has now been confirmed.

The financial watchdog is also hoping this will leave time for a final ruling on a case that Barclays is battling in the courts that could set precedent on the matter.

In July, the FCA said it was “more likely”to have to prepare a compensation scheme that some analysts have previously estimated could cost lenders billions of pounds.
